Day 140: 500 mm in box, the integrated lenshood was blocked so it did not fit in the box when I got it, got that solved, even if the hood is still too stiff to be practical.

Even if my 500mm is an old sigma (no VR and f4,5) thus lighter then most (3,5kg), it is a challenge to hand hold and it really gets heavy when carrying in your hand.
Even on the bird above I had to find support on a little wall after a while.

700mm f6,3 hand held again, story in the monthly assignment:
I used to be sporty (daily weights training) and my current weight is over 100kg, the lens hand held is OK for a short shoot.
The lens does give some more possibilities, but I would like to get better at approaching my subjects closer, I believe it will improve the pictures more.
The lens is 25 years old and the AF sometimes blocks (movement in the parts), it is a bit of challenge, but with the result above I do not regret I went for it.

Thistel and the red bee:
Bird of prey, so I see this bird regularly when driving home. So one night I parked a bit further and tried to approach it calmly next to the bushes, but I did not get any decent picture before it flew away. Driving home I saw the thistles had flowers, so the next day I went for the thistles and found a lot a bees on them. When driving away, I say the bird of prey again and got a bit better picture.

Bad picture, but learning moment:
So one evening when I was looking for macro subjects between some meadows I noticed a fox. I did not have the gear on me to try to take a picture, so I let it it run. When I drove away I saw it was still hanging around, so I figured it was the fox main hunting ground. Some days later I went back to check, with my best gear for this (700mm on Gimbal). When arriving the fox had seen me and I saw it running away. Now in this area there is quite some human movement, so I thought this might not have scared the fox completely away. I installed myself in a discrete place with good overview and waited. After a while I noticed a snale and got macro gear out again to take a picture of that creature, while setting up that gear I notice the fox in the field, so I went back to the fox. It was far away and the sun was being covered by clouds in the very late evening, impossible to do anything under 6400 ISO, at the end I was at 25200 ISO. The fox was "working" on a hole in the ground from time to time getting something out to eat, regularly checking the movement around him (not noticing me), I must have observed him 10 minutes at least on maximum magnification on life view. This moment was worth a lot more then getting a good picture of it. (I would have to tresspass to get a better position)

A story:
My colleague, specialised in butterfly photography, recommended a natural reserve. On a nice day I decided to leave early from work, go to the reserve, leaving the family alone at home.
I concentrated on the butterfly:
I was happy it even put itself in a better position:
It then moved, but not very far, I tried to keep up, but got distracted by the beetle in front (missing the other bugs still):
then I started to notice the white ball:
It was good to have the pictures, because my concentration on the butterfly, made me miss the white ball till then, I started to see what was going on:
(not Nikon camera, but Nikkor 50mm f1,8)
The other butterflies seem to miss what was going on as well.
To defend the story, there are exceptional wild orchids in this reserve that depend on arachnids for pollination just before spring.
