I have a D90. It is an amazingly well designed camera for the money. I purchased the battery pak for it as well and simply love the feel of it.

Best value lens I purchased for it is the older 300 f4 that works like a charm on it, saving me a ton of money.

My vote: D90

I had a 300, but I believe it was f4.5. Used it for shooting at air shows. Got stolen, along with my FE2 body and 105 f2.5 out of the trunk of my car, about 15 years ago. Miss that stuff!

How come everyone is recommending an old model over new? Wouldnt nikon as a company make future products better than already released ones? What way D90 is superior right from sensor, mega pix, iso, swivel screen, tons of shooting mode, ease to use for freshers over d5100?

The reason why some prefer the older D90 over the current D5100 is really very simple, at least it would be for me. The D90, to me, is noticeably larger and heavier and feels better in my hands, and feels like a "real" camera. Most who are more interested in taking photographs and less interested in video don't care and won't miss that the D90 has a fixed LCD screen. The "articulated" screen is primarily for those who want to shoot video, though there is certainly a use for still photos for low and/or high-angle shots. Me, I prefer larger, heavier and bulkier cameras. I don't want a camera that fits in my pocket.

Ya know....I hear people say things like "it's the latest technology...the latest this....the latest that...". That doesn't always translate into the best. Sometimes the older technology....especially the proven ones, like the D90, make more sense than always trying to keep up with the Jone's. Don't buy a camera based on what everyone says about it.....buy a camera based on what you WANT it to do for you! Bells and whistles are great, but not just because it's the latest fad. Lenses are far more important than the camera anyway!
