Just to throw a little more gas on the flame, here is an interesting article (with examples) by Dallas Dahms who used a mix of a D700, D3100 and OM-D E-M5 to cover the 47th ICANN international meeting. I was real impressed with his thought and planning process while maximizing his results. Great read.

Excellent article and the guy did a great job on this event. It just goes to show that a good photographer knows his equipment and will use whatever it takes to get the job done . . . good point about planning.

After the wildfire here last year, a friend called and said the wild horses were in her area . . . they had been very elusive and I had to move quickly. I threw my camera bag into the truck and took off. Well, guess what I left at home. . . the camera . . . it was too late to turn back and all I had in my pocket was a Canon Powershot . . . so that's what I used. Shots were fine . . . not as fancy as I think I could have gotten with the dslr . . . but mission was accomplished.

Moral of the story . . . it's the shot that's important, not the equipment.

People love the idea of re-using lenses from “old” cameras and systems, but I hope (and think) that is a tradition that will fall away like using old LPs on new record players. At some point, everything changes and you just buy new kinds of “songs” for new kinds of

Nope, I so do not agree, Optics are Optics, and the old stuff works great, and it will be a while before all the great lens no longer are of value.

an no reason why a full frame mirrorless camera from Nikon can't keep the tradition.

As do old LPs on new turn-tables! ;)
