Tree on a hill

Shot this from the back sear of a car, with windows up, on a very cloudy (lightly rainy) day, while the car was going around 70mph.
Let me know what you guys think.
(fyi - looks like I have some particles on my sensor which I can not get rid of by blowing air)

The sky looks a strange color and has no clouds or detail. The tree falls in thirds but there just realy is nothing to the picture. I always say when I see a picture that if I was flipping through flickr looking at photos would I stop to view it. In this case I would go right by it.

I agree with Martenfisher on this, I'm afraid. I would add that the composition is on the right track, but the fact that there's only half the tree and the colouring is fairly dull gives it a snapshot feel.

Yup, agreed on all points. Landscapes need some interest, though not clutter ( though even that can work sometimes - depends on the skill / eye of the photographer )

Sky has zero form, field has zero form, which leaves the top of a tree. Sorry Jumbo - it aint working

thanks for the input guys... I would definitely try to get more details in the pictures, and try not to make it dull.

Snow White
(from critique posting rules)
3.
Include as much info as possible along with your image:
  • EXIF data
  • Artistic intent/summary of the photo
  • What specifically do you want feedback on?

I'm not sure what you want critiqued, the photo or the fact that you captured it from a moving car with the windows up.

For the capture "from a moving vehicle" your photo earns 1 point for technique; as far as the rest of the merits:
+1 for center of interest
-1 creativity
-1 composition
-1 technical excellence ("sensor spots" should always be removed in post processing before presenting a photo for critique)
+1 for subject matter
+1 for color balance
-1 for impact
-1 for storytelling
-1 for style
-1 lighting
-1 print presentation

Your photo earns 4 points out of a possible 12
