Travelling with expensive gear

I have a trip to New Orleans and staying in the Quarter. Would you carry your gear? Various websites warn of snatchers. Thanks

I was just there a few weeks ago. I didn't find NOLA that different than other large cities so use common sense. I pretty much had my X-T1 kit in a Mirrorless Mover 20 with me everywhere while my wife had her J5.

Insurance.
Be discreet, consider black gaff tape over the make/model of the camera/lens.
never leave gear in your hotel room or unattended if possible.

Use bags that do not scream CAMERA BAG, or use a camera bag marked CANON - that should deter theft :)

How'd you know that I use a CANON bag? Ha! I bought it because the price was right and my stuff fit. Originally I had planned on removing the label, but haven't yet. Maybe that is a good thing. Ha!

My camera gear is always on me or at the very least nearby and in my sight from the moment I leave home til the moment I get back home.

When we travel, we even bring our camera gear to the restaurant to keep it safe. Insurance won't recover days of lost vacation pictures. My willingness to carry gear has more to do with its bulk. My wife's Nikon P100 CoolPix is perfect for the city and long hikes.
