Here are some I shot today, Sigma 105 mm macro, it was windy as heck (a little wind changes the focus a lot) and the shallow focus are going to take some getting used to but anyway here are some

I'm gonna keep this lens.

I also was just hand holding, don't know if the wind was moving me or the flower, lol. I am looking forward to some calm tripod shots. It's probably not as good as the nikon but for what I need and afford it's good for me. I'll never get the D300 if I keep buying.

Yea, I know, maybe I can whip out a couple of quick web sites next week and tell my wife I've hit the wall, can't go any further tell I get that new camera body, then I need to explain the last one that was gonna last a lifetime.....

Nice pics, Bill, even for a windy day! Did you use auto focus or manual on these?

I had tried out 2 macros before I settled on the nikon 60 mm. One was the sigma 105 --I just didn't like the feel of it . . . the auto focus seemed to be really slow and cumbersome. . . seemed to be "hunting " a lot. So I tried the nikon 105 next . . . the autofocus was better, but it seemed to me to be kind of "temperamental", only way I can describe it . . . and the 105 was a little impractical for DX format. . . had to back way up to if I wanted to do non-macro . . . so I went with the 60 mm which I have been really happy with. Shot all my candid bridal shower shots and tonight's halloween party with the 60 mm. I like lenses that are versatile.

Good luck with your sigma. . . I hope it works well for you!

Best Regards

This is such a wonderful shot, Ranie!
I have this lens also and usually keep it on my D2x almost always . . . love this lens!

Thank you Helene.
Have not shot for a while lately. Been busy with work. I also love this lens. If not for this thread, I totally forgot about it. LOL
My 17-55 is my default lens on my cam.

Would anyone recommend the 85mm f/3.5G ? It's the DX micro lens. I realized the 60mm is an FX lens and I'll get some cropping with my D5000...

I had that very lens, jdeg, for about 6 months. Great macro lens. I just recently sold it, because I found I wasn't doing enough macro to justify hanging on to it. I bought a 55-300mm lens instead, because I do more long range shots than macro. For a macro lens, I found the 85 a very decent lens to work with. Excellent optics and fast focusing. I would highly recommend this lens for macro shots.

You've got that backwards, jdeg. A FX lens on a DX body won't crop the corners - that's a DX lens on a FX body.

It'll work just fine on your D5000. It will only use the center part of the lens, which is typically the sharpest portion of the lens anyways!

The reviews on the 85mm f/3.5G (AF-S) is that it is not up to par optic wise with other Nikkor lenses. Take a look at the Tokina 100mm, f/2.8. A much better lens for less money. There are other versions of the 85mm but if I'm not mistaken they are all D type and will not auto focus on the D5000.
