Right healthy bird. Could almost pass for a turkey. Is that a sign of a hard winter to come??

That's a worry for sure. There's a group of 5 or 6 in this little area of the lake trail and at least 3 are this size. Also saw a lot of wooly caterpillars as the season began to turn; another harsh winter sign. UGH. I hope it's a myth this year.

What color were the woolies and were they banded?

Worst winter I can remember, the wooly worms were all different, but every one I saw was crawling south.

dark brown banded and black ones. never paid attention to the crawl direction though. i'm ok with some cold and even snow, but the horrible ice storms are a royal pain in the a$$!!
