i tried a "bokeh" shot with my girlfriends hair yesterday morning. i didnt know how good the 18-55mm kit lens is on the d3100 for doing these shots but i guess it isnt THAT bad.

and this is the same pic but i used the softening tool on the actual camera just to try it out. to me it gives it that sort of dream/fantasy look.

yes,, that is what is suprising for some,, the 18x55 is actually a fine lens, quite capable, may not be built like a tank, and squeeks after a while, seems like can shake into pieces, and yet, treat it right, and you will obtain fine results.

Got some thoughts, I'll write them below the picture.

The figure seems a little to dark, and the background to bright. A lot of empty space - which CAN be nice, but I think the church in the middle disturbes the calmness.

Great!

Background aren't straight, so the picture are tilting. Maybe a little more light on the front subject, to make it pop out.

http://s597.photobucket.com/user/shoecannon/media/_DSC2394.jpg.htmlIts pretty hard to see what exactly it is?

Amazing :) Love the way you made it look big as.. something really big. Nice colours. The bench and chairs are a little disturbing at the bottom.

another little outing. this time to the transport museum and an old church.
as always opinions are most welcome!

church is being restored at the moment. i forget who but apparently the murals and such are by some important guy.

this is inside and on the deck of the "tall ship" outside the museum.

outside the museum theres these massive bush seats. pics are of my girlfriend and I.

an old locomotive

cant remember the name of this car or bike... was more interested in getting a shot without people in it!

i like this one quite a lot

and of course the spirit of excstasy

Not sure if I mentioned this before, but most of your inside shots appear dark. Could be my monitor. The outside shots are fine. Great shots of the cars and bike.

i see what you mean marilynne but i think its actually subconciously intentional :p i mean i try and take them brighter etc. but then when i look at the pic it doesnt seem true to the eye. for example in the museum, specifically the car pics, it was rather dark and i tried to capture that. now that i think about it most of the time i shoot indoors there isnt much light at all. i guess i prefer low light settings.

anyway i recently went to the botanic gardens a stones throw away from my house.

these two are using my 55-200mm (i took plenty of shots of ducks and birds etc but they where all just rather insignificant.)

these are using the 18-55mm kit lense.

You got a great eye :) You make the compositions look very easy and they got a beautiful soft "flow" somehow. Its really good pictures! I like them too.
