The Horoscope Fish Bowl-O-Rama :: Photos Occasional ::

Well I recently had an opportunity to do some shots of house for sale for a local real estate company. The listing was going live and they needed marketing photos turned around “yesterday”. With no time allotted for processing these were taken in JPG and turned over straight out of camera without so much as having any distortion correction done… Making matters worse, I couldn’t shoot until late in the afternoon (GAH!) So, with no time to scope out the scene ahead of time I packed up and headed out.

The shots below were all taken with my Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 on my D7100 at ISO 200. With little or no natural light, my Yongnuo 565ex was deployed on camera, sometimes with an Omnibounce diffuser attached. Most shots were bounced off the ceiling. Some of these shots need a little work but...

The Yongnuo showed itself to be a really powerful unit; it had no trouble easily lighting entire rooms with very nice light. The swiveling head was really nice and more useful than I would have imagined. If you’re even considering the Yongnuo 565ex, I have nothing but great things to say about it.

Nice job. And that is not a nice job considering. I hope you made them pay dearly for the rush job.

Not nearly enough time for photography lately... But when a small, family-owned carnival rolls into town it's too good an opportunity to pass up.

A couple of carnies were kind enough let the girlfriend and I slip in and get some shots when the carnival wasn't officially open for business (Thanks Stevie! Thanks Ray-Ray!):

Great shots. carnivals are always fun to shoot but difficult to do right because of the crowds.

You have to love these newfangled sensors! I don't even hesitate when I need to go that high.

On a side note. I would hate to be the kid caught cutting in his line.

Anza Borrego Desert Trip / Geocaching

Posting up a few shots from a recent trip to the Anza Borrego Desert with the girlfriend. We head east this weekend to do some landscape shooting and for a chance to unearth a few geocaches!

If you're not familiar with geocaching it's a bit like treasure hunting using a hand-held GPS unit and the official geocaching website. Geocaches are hidden containers, commonly filled with toys for trading (you take a toy, you leave another in it's place) and log book you sign to prove you found the cache. Then you log your find and any details you want about adventure on the website to share with other geocachers. Geocaches can be big containers like you see here, or tiny and containing nothing more than a scrap of paper to log your find. It's a lot of fun and family friendly too boot.

On the road to Borrego...

A geocache, partially uncovered; they are often camouflaged.

Our first find, opened. Lot of swag for trading in this one!

The harsh beauty of the Anza Borrego Desert. I soooo love it here.

Re: The Horoscope Fish Bowl-O-Rama :: A Day at the Camel Dairy ::

Couldn't pass an opportunity to visit the local camel dairy and meet some camels. All sorts of camel-related goods were available for sale (not camels, though), including camel rides, camels-milk soap and so on.

We left with nothing but fond, camel-inspired camel-memories. Later that night, we'd go to sleep and have wonderful camel dreams...

Re: The Horoscope Fish Bowl-O-Rama :: Renaissance Faire ::

The Renaissance Faire that comes to my town is pretty lame in comparison to the one I'm used in my home state of Kansas. Of all things for a home town to excel at, right? In Kansas no less. Go figure.

Anyway, this renaissance faire was notable for is disappointing lack of scantily clad, if historically accurately-costumed, young women... [sad face emoticon goes here]
