My whole area appears to be on fire today; there are currently eight fires in the region. The shot of this plume is from the closest of them and was taken from just outside my front door. I was thinking I was going to have to drive around for a good shot.

Yup, that's the plume from the San Marcos fire. The one keeping me home from work today which I'm not happy about... C'est la vie.I'm assuming that's the one in San Marcos. My wife's cousin went under mandatory evacuation yesterday. Scary stuff over there. Stay safe!!
Thanks to both of you... We're not in any immediate danger, at least not now. Yesterday was touch and go in a "we have stuff packed and ready to go in case we have (another) evacuation order" sort of way. I'm used to this kind of thing but it's all very new and frightening to the girlfriend who is NOT used to this sort of thing...Stay safe!
Camera gear, personal effects and "bug out" bags are prepped. Conditions seem to be improving, thankfully.Pack all the camera gear! Unless you have it covered on homeowners policy!
She's an East Coast transplant that's only been in S. Cal for about six months. She's a tough nut (she's my GF so that should go without saying) but yeah, she's a little nervous to say the least. She's not used to this sort of thing.HF, how are the fires affecting you mate, must be near on top of you?
LOL... I have no intention of finding out.Yea, what sonicbuffalo said. I don't think the 7100 is fire proof.
