Not sure I like this one enough for the monthly contest, but I like it enough to share.

Thanks, Pat. I'm alright with it, but with a couple weeks to go I don't want to throw 3 quick ones up. At least I have this in my pocket, though I'd probably rather stand on either of the two already in there.

Understand ya there! I made that mistake a couple months back... I ended up getting a much better shot later but had already used my 3 entries..

A little selective color trying to do something with an image that didn't quite behave. Shot thru the car window, so I'm not too displeased.

A Tufted Titmouse spent about 5 minutes harvesting fur from the back of a pair of young groundhogs yesterday. They both got annoyed at one point, but the bird persisted until its beak could hold no more.

If you look close enough you can see that I knocked it tight. What you didn't see is the shot before that ... the ball is somewhere in the foreground, below the surface. At least I made the putt.

My very first Infrared photo (if you throw out the ones I took trying to get a white balance - which I could do fairly easily, thank God!!). More to come. I have a feeling I'm going to have a hell of a lot of fun. LOL

Only post-processing was a quick white balance with levels (moved it a tick) and a channel swap (red for blue).

I've got no complaints. White balance adjusts nicely and the images are nice and sharp.

Here is another one from the Blue Army Shrine here in Washington, NJ.

Three more from yesterday's IR outing. Need to do some more reading to learn some more post-processing tricks. This is definitely for the tweaker photographer.

Cool-cool-cool! What is that about the white balance? Something I should read up on?
Still waiting for my IR filter, thought it said shipping 1 week, but it said 1-3 weeks, argh.

Not sure about how you go about it with a filter vs. a full conversion, but with the 720nm conversion you're supposed to white balance on green grass the same way you would a grey card with a normal photo. If you shoot RAW you don't have to do it initially, but your jpg previews will look VERY red.

Interesting stuff Jake, I find I really like the B&W IR better than the color. Looks like you can create a very strong level of contrast. Have you tried HDR IR?

Only had it the one day and have family around so I haven't had an opportunity to try too many things. Not sure how HDR IR would go given that it's just the single spectrum. I'll have to mess with it. It's going to take a while before I can start thinking in the shade of colors I get with IR, and I'll likely start experimenting with different levels on the blue-red channel swapping. B&W is definitely more "normal" looking, but I do like the way the colors can pop certain things. I suspect that HDR would be complicated by the channel swapping, and I'm not sure if you would benefit from doing it before or after merging. I suspect it might look muddled. Like I said, I'll have to experiment.

(edit) Just did a search on IR HDR and there's some cool stuff out there. Might need to give it a shot.

Ah I didnt notice you were on full conversion. I'll see what goes on, when I get to try it some day (filter, that is).

IR HDR sounds interesting, Rick :)
