I'll have to give it a shot. I was reading a lot of reviews, and it seemed people were having problems getting it to fire in any other mode than "M". That's why I was confused. I'm going to try to do some bounce and distance tests tomorrow.

Great, do the distance tests, it should be interesting. Make TTL do some work. One of us will be surprised. I hope it's not me. :)

FWIW, AWL Remote mode (for Commander) won't fire, all the foot pins are disabled in Remote mode.

But just ordinary menu TTL mode should still be fired by closing the large center pin, same old way. A paper clip will fire it. It just can't do iTTL that way, cannot respond to TTL commands, it does not know a power level. If its a Nikon flash, I would guess at 1/16 power (like the Test button in TTL mode), but I don't know what level it does. Only know it cannot be controlled by TTL metering if there is no communication path.

What your saying makes sense now that I think about it. If my camera is downstairs and flash upstairs, it will fire, but obviously no clue on exposure. BUUUUUT, if my first guess was right, I'm flying down to Texas and you owe me dinner and some drinks. haha.

Well... just tried it in the garage with a few distance tests. What kind of dinner do you want? Steak or seafood? :( haha. I guess I was confused by some of the reviews I read of people not being able to fire their flash in TTL mode, and got excited when mine did, and gave me a good exposure. I guess my flash was in the perfect spot to give me the correct exposure. haha. Doh. Still like me? lol

Great, and no problem here. Thanks for doing it, and I am glad that is worked out now. I was just trying to point out there is a big difference in "firing", and "doing TTL". :)

I guess your camera settings were just halfway matching whatever middle power it was using, at least at some distance in the room.

Ya. I almost always have my camera shutter on sync speed, and then adjust the aperture to what I'm shooting. I blame my camera for giving me a correct exposure on the "test" fire. haha. I originally ordered the 603's as a remote shutter, which they work perfectly for 30$. Guess I'll be picking up the YN-622's when the TX comes out. But for the original post, your flash should work in Manual mode. ;-)

I just got the same flash and Cowboy Studio cheap triggers with 2 receivers for $25 total.
Yes, I also don't see manual settings, but I also have Canon 430 EX II,which does have manual settings.
So I plan to use Sunpak as is and adjust Canon as needed. For example 2 stops lower then Sunpak for portraits.
Merry Christmas,
Gino

I used one of those on my XG-1 about 30 years ago. Worked great but I droped it too many times so after 10 years, it gave up.
