As always, your work is excellent! :)

Question for you, Jake--on August 23rd you shot with the D600 while on August 30th you shot with the D7100. When doing street photography, do you find you have a preference for either FX or DX, or doesn't it matter? There is an Amish Market not far from here which is only open 3 days per week. After seeing so many of your shots, I may go there and see what it is like. I'm not sure it is anywhere near as big as your Farmer's Market though. I think this Amish Market bought an old car dealership building so I imagine it is limited in size.

On another note, I had to laugh when I read the thread's title. I caught a cursory glimpse of the title and thought it said Sesame Street Photography at Easton Farmer's Market. Here I was expecting to see Big Bird and friends. ;)

I grab whatever I feel like, to be honest. A DX body and 24-120mm f4 is pretty perfect for this stuff. Last week I grabbed the D600 because, well, I have too many cameras and I thought I'd grabbed the D7100. I was glad to get some clicks on it though, as I'd like to test out that new shutter sooner rather than later. When I shot street with the D600 at Musikfest I found that the 24-120mm wasn't long enough. I'm not one to get in folks' faces.

That being said Jake, what lens do you feel would work best with the D600 for street photography?

Honestly? It depends on the street and how close you want to get. And I'm not being flippant. 24-120mm lacks on the far end, 70-200mm lacks on the near end. 28-300mm would be perfect. With the 24-120mm on a DX there are things where I find myself saying, "Damn, it's not wide enough", but for people it's pretty darn good. I'd be better off with the 18-140mm, which I've thought about getting.

"Street" is one of those genres where you are either looking for a specific something, in which case you can get away with a 35mm or a 50mm and be happy, or you're essentially doing random non-event photography, in which case the more range the better. For the Farmer's Market I could do it with the D600 but I like more reach and the D7100 gives me that. If I still had the 28-300mm then I'd use that exclusively for stuff like this.

Two weeks' worth of posts. Last week was busy, busy, busy.

(FYI, from 40 feet away this one was so sharp in RAW that had any of her 7 credit/debit cards been showing I could have had a field day with "Jennifer's" bank account).

continued...

The first 3 photos are a series. The boy was walking with his Mom when the rain started picking up. As she stopped to buy them breakfast he decided to sidle up next to a girl behind them in line and get out of the rain. I love the look on his face as he looks up at her as if to say, "You really don't mind sharing your umbrella, right?"
