Thank you very much , yes we had a storm move through last night and lay down a blanket of Ice. You have to love Oklahoma weather. I know about Alabama I spent some time in Anniston, I am sure it is 86 there right now and humid already.

I do not normally shoot very many portraits. Its just not where my interests lie, however today while I was watching the race. I took the opportunity to shoot a few candid portraits.

I dabbled this evening and tried something I have not tried previously. I shot a landscape behind the house in IR HDR. I am not sure exactly what I think of it just yet but I am intrigued enough I will try it again.

I especially like the subtle tones in the grass and trees behind. Very nice, and good for you for trying something new. Are you using a filter or is your camera ir-converted? I might have missed that somewhere.

In any case, it's well worth more experimentation. Great job!

Helene it is a Nikon D200 which has had the 720nm IR conversion performed. Thank you so much for your kind words, I may indeed try it more, as it appears to enhance the detail and sharpens the soft edges that are always present in IR images while leaving the visually appealing aspects of IR present.

Ok today I did some experimentation again, these images are all of the same subject. I shot photos of a wood pile from the demolition of my barn. The first one is IR which has been post processed into a color image.

Color IR Wood Pile .jpg

The second image is the same wood pile processed normally as a monochrome image.

IR Woodpile Monochrome.jpg

The last image is the IR HDR image again in monochrome.

The goal for me was to see if I can detect a noticeable improvement in definition in the image, overall the jury is still out as far as I am concerned. There are some subtle improvements but I am not sure as to how much of an improvement it genuinely makes. I am still experimenting and I want to try a few more things out before I make a final decision. Today was not really the best day at all since I had 30 mile per hour winds and things just do not hold still as can be evidenced from the trees in the background. Still the wood pile did not move which is why I chose it as a subject. LOL.
