While some of you are out photographing birds and flowers and all that neat outdoor stuff; this just about sums up our week here. Wind chills 25 below this morning.View attachment 140707

Someone's gotta do it Ron and I'm glad it's NOT me!!! Supposed to be in the 80's today and 40's tomorrow morning with a high around 60 and colder on Thursday.

I posted this in my 52 1n 2015 thread but decided to day to try the same shot with my cell phone. I will leave you all to judge the difference keeping in mind that the sun was out a little today. _AAA4324 - Version 2 - 2015-02-01 at 17-23-29.jpg

Okay, let's talk framing. You make your best effort to get the photo, you sweat bullets over the edit, you agonize over the size of print and the aspect and you finally get it the way you like it. Now you have to decide on how to print it; either sending out or printing it yourself. You need to select the paper, and finally out pops a print.
Now a whole other raft of questions arise. How should it be mounted? Do I need a mat? What color and size does the mat need to be? Will I have the photo displayed under glass? What kind of glass? How big should the frame be and what should it look like?
It is why, at the end of the day, many of us like a wee dram of whiskey.
I have been lucky enough to acquire a print of Wendy Thorson's "Lily" and I was determined to do it justice. I wanted to compliment the photo without overpowering it and have the decor of the frame match that of the room where it will later reside. I will leave you all to decide wether or not I succeeded._AAA4602 - Version 2 - 2015-03-11 at 09-21-41.jpg

Wendy had the print mounted, on rigid foam, I added a silk mat in a light rose beige with gold caming and a bright gilded frame. The glass is non-glare conservation glass, and I kept the frame narrow to minimize it's impact. It is, after all, all about the photo. The mat, the glass, and the frame are just gift wrapping.

I am glad that you are pleased Wendy. This particular photo deserved my best effort. There are other ways of doing it , no doubt, but i wanted you to at least see the possibilities that this photo generates. After it hangs in my Gallery for several months, it will have an honored place on my living room wall.

In every instance we try and match the framing to the print.

While looking for a sunset at Sistersville W.Va. I spyed a wedding party getting some photo at a gazebo that overlooks the river. So I joined in the photo shoot just to see what I could manage._AAA4632 - Version 2 - 2015-03-14 at 19-21-29.jpg

You can see the elbow of another photographer in the left hand corner, so i tried one more which I like to call "Oh Happy Day"_AAA4635 - Version 2 - 2015-03-14 at 19-22-05.jpg
