Busy day at work, did not get any industrial shots. Headed over to Horseshoe Pond... swans were out but too far, the Heron was out but behind the trees..

Pulled out teh Macro (105mm Sigma) and did the following of growth around the Pond. The last picture was with the 55-300 when I was searching for the Heron.

May 23rd, another rainy day... There is a story with todays pictures... I missed the following:
Heron in Flight - Swan flapping and sqauking as he chased the Geese...

Anyway, on to the Story.... Horsehoe Pond... There is a pair of Blue Herons... usually only see one... a nesting pair of Geese and a nesting pair of Swans. The Swans have set up Houskeeping at the end of the marsh and the Geese were nesting in an island of brush. There used to be several species of ducks but I have not seen them for a while. I suspect they have been chased off by the swans who have also chased the geese around (but not out)...

I have 2 google map pics showing the Pond (and why it is called Horseshoe) and a zoom in on the nesting areas.

These shots are friday... On Wednesday, I saw the 2 geese paddling away from the dock area with several little ones... The swans were at the other end where their nest was... On Thursday, I saw no birds

The first thing I noticed upon arrival Friday, both Swans were in the nest area of the Geese. I did not see the Geese at all...

DSC_9315.jpg

Then I heard them... The Geese were in the open water between the 2 Nest areas... and honking up a storm. I did not see any babies and it seemed they were screaming at the Swans.

Shortly, 1st one, then the other Swan went after the Geese... They chased them around the pond!

The Geese would fly about 15 yards as the Swan got close... then the Swan would elevate in the water to intimidate the Geese..
(The next 2 shots were from a previous day of the swan chasing a goose).

It was an interesting Dance!

Thanks for the great explanation of where you go and what you see Pat. Now we can see why it is called horseshoe pond. It looks quite large too. Can you also access that waterway behind the pond that we can see? It looks like a large area of unpopulated land between the pond and it ( I assume it's a river?).
