Day 129

Finally got the pool water cleared up. It's amazing what it'll do if you take the dead mouse that looked like a clump of dust on the floor out of the water. (I'll spare you from those photos...)

Now I have to get the water to sparkle, and it'll be ready for another year!!

Though I was in it today doing some detailed cleaning.

The standard pool water test is to toss a quarter in, and if you can read the year the coin was minted, your water is good to go. This water, while really clean, is not there yet. I have about another week to work on it before it gets to that point. You can see the wrinkle in my liner though, that's a good start.

Day 130 Awww.. My cuz is getting married!

So we went traipsing off to SW Michigan for a wedding today. Little did we know it was wine country we were heading into! I didn't move around during the ceremony, there were two pro's doing that... Didn't want to get in their way. So I sat in my third row seat and took what I could...

This is Brent and Amanda. It was in the forties, that poor girl was freezing!

Someone's phone photography from the second row. Totally jealous, they had a better view.

The place was setup just for marriages, I hear you need to book the place a year in advance.

They were real good about removing various dishes when we were done with them. The only problem was, they handed the bread bowl to one of us, then left. There was no place to actually set the bowl down!

Day 131

Whoa! I've died and gone to heaven. Grapes for as far as the eye can see!We didn't have time to visit any wineries, but we'll be making a return trip just for that reason!

We did stop at my NSLLHBS (Not So Local Local Home Brewery Shop) homebrewit.com on the way home. I was drooling so much, I forgot to take photos! They had a 7 foot tall fruit press. It was awesome! I just bought a glass carboy and some various little items though.

Later in the day, we tossed the kids in the Expedition, and took them to a Drive-in theater that's just down the road from us. It was my little one's first drive-in. We saw Iron Man 3, and Oz the great and powerful (or whatever the name is...) A freak storm rolled through before the movies started. Thought it was weird looking when the sun popped out with the black clouds still there.

Day 132

So my wife wants to put in a vineyard. I've been reading books and things about it for a few months now. It costs about $20,000 to install each acre of vineyard. So... yeah, probably won't be getting that new lens I wanted this month. LOL

Here's the beginning of our 1/16 acre vineyard. I measured it out and mowed the field down today. I put the chicken there for a size reference. It's much bigger than it looks on paper.

We should be prepping the ground and installing trellises this year. Planting in the spring of 2014 for a first full harvest in 2016. 72 vines, I think we're going with Catawba and Steuben grapes. This can yield up to a half a ton of grapes, making almost 700 bottles of wine.

Go ahead and guess what half of our barn is getting converted to.

Day 133

So I've been watching this go up for the last 6 months. The first 5 months was ground prep. It was taking so long I thought for sure they were building some secret underground lair. Then parts started showing up, and I decided it was a substation since it was next to those high tension power lines. Then they built these tower thingies.

A REALLY BIG substation? I do not know.

I've sent this photo off to my Brother in law who works for Toledo Edison. He should know exactly what it is...

I like the secret underground lair option better. The substation is just a ruse.

I like that option better too. First they built the driveway, and I thought someone was just building a house in the middle of a cornfield. They do that all over the place around here.

Then they cleared a giant rectangle on the ground. I thought, well, that's too big for a house. Must be a barn or something.

Then they rolled in two onsite office trailer thingies. Something big is going in for offices to be on site.

Then the big scoopy machines rolled in, and bulldozers, and secret deliveries in the middle of the night. Giant non-descript steel box things were left in the middle of the road at night, with no blinking lights, just a "Road Closed" sign leaned up against it. The road wasn't really closed, just one of the lanes. All the while they kept digging, scooping, moving massive amounts of dirt.

Then I saw giant things being delivered 10 miles away from the Railroad spur that goes behind where I work, which said things would be at that site the next day.

It's probably really a missile silo. ::what::

I think it is the bracing for a screen for a drive in theater. Am I showing my age? LOL

LOL!

I don't think so, cause they just don't build 'em like they used to. Lemme dig up the photo I took the other day...

Uh Oh... They're not importing to where I thought they were importing... I'll be back.

Found it! LR put this batch of photos back about 6 months ago. I have no idea why...

This is the drive in Screen we went to last Saturday. I think it's just metal roofing painted white...
It worked, whatever it is. But it sure isn't how they use to build them!

20120511-_1RB4772.jpg

...and I got an answer from my Brother in law.

Yep it's a new sub. The ground prep usually takes awhile putting in a ground grid and the foundation part. I'll be working on the poles next week

I told him I think they put in a secret underground lair anyway...

This is the reason half the barn is getting converted to a winery... I've outgrown the pantry!

Tomorrow is our 14th anniversary. I leave for work at 5am, she gets home from work at 8am. Like two ships passing in the night. She'll be getting a basket full of these flowers so the whole house smells good. Lilac is her favorite flower.

Our real anniversary present for each other is the same thing every year! We trek off to Columbus, Ohio for Rock on the Range at The Crew Stadium.

It's three days, fifty bands, nine comedians, too much beer, and thirty thousand of our closest friends!
Rock on the Range 2011.jpg

But we do get the hotel room with a Jacuzzi suite. Our bones are getting too old to survive the weekend without one.

I won't be taking my Nikon with me, but I'll have my handy dandy Samsung Galaxy Nexus with me. Sometimes the only way to actually survive this is to get out of the crowd by going up and over everyone. No fear though, they're our closest friends, so they'll carry us all the way to the front!

First, a correction. It's our 15th anniversary. Time flies when you're in love!

Second, here's a photo I took. It's the only one I took today, so this is all you get.

Day 136

Pool water test!

4 feet of water, one quarter, of course it landed on tails, I wasn't getting in the freezing water to flip it over, but you can read the date, and that's the important part.

Yes, I need to vacuum...
