I'm trying to get into the trade myself. After I lost my previous job, due to the closing of a long-standing Campbell's Soup factory where I worked, I went to a trade school to learn to be an electrician. I got straight “A” grades throughout the entire course, but have been struggling since then to get an actual job in the trade.

Nothing scientific here, but this is a 1:1 crop with the D500. Backlighting and very flat light, exposure bumped .7 stops in Lightroom. A little luminance and sharpening. +10 on contrast.



I'm hoping to get some bird in flight shots tomorrow.

First real day of shooting with the D500. 1800 shots, mostly birds. The focusing hit rate on birds in flight seems significantly better than the D7200. Most of the missed were my fault. It got some birds in focus that I never would have thought possible on prayer shots. It's not perfect, though. There were some misses on shots that the camera did not track from shot to shot.

The focusing system is better on stationary subjects, too. I especially noticed on dark birds with no contrasting colors, for instance.

I haven't come close to processing all the shots, but here is a BIF.

Nah, I've discovered that XQD cards work just fine, are built to last forever, and are lightening fast.
