Register with Pay-Pal?

I have always stayed away from PayPal for a lot of reasons.
Even if i pay through eBay, i don't register with them
I just wanted to place a bid for something on eBay, but the seller apparently accepts bids from only those who have a registered PayPal account!
So wondering if anyone has registered themselves or have any experience on this?

I use PayPal and have no issues with it.

Hi,

I don't like anybody to sneak into my business! I avoid middle services: these have
hidden costs that end up reflected discretely on invoices!

If you can do without… I know they are persistent, nevertheless…

Have a good day…

My suggestion is to open a new checking account. Use that one as your pay pal reference as well as all other online purchases (or sales). Put money into it when you want to buy something, and remove any extra from your sales keeping your balance at the minimum required by the bank.

Credit cards are cashing from 1,5 to 5 % of the sales paid though their services.
This money is added to the fix costs by the operator and reflected in the final price.
Very often, merchants will offer a 2 to 3 % discount on cash payments. There you are!

Difficult to use cash on ebay and when you save £100 on a lens by by using pay pal on ebay then 1 to 5 % is not of much importance.

If you don't register your bank account, you can simply register and always use a credit card for Paypal purchases, like anywhere else. If any appropriate problem, you can dispute the card transaction. Cannot sell things that way however.

I've been using Paypal to make and receive payments since 2000 without issue. It's a great service and the fees are minimal compared to what you get for your money.

I like to keep a buffer between Paypal and my money. I have setup a single savings account at my bank. I keep the minimum amount of money in that account as possible. This is linked to my paypal account. This has served me well for 13 years and counting.

Another alternative is to link a credit card to your paypal account. No worries either way.

There are zero hidden fees or costs with Paypal. Compare their services against having to go out and start your own merchant account to accept credit card payments, unless you are running a business, this is one of the best alternatives out there.

Thats what i did, have now registered my bank so i can sell things, obviously if you dont pay your card bills on time it costs you,but if an advert on ebay for a lens hood new from china states £2 free carriage then that is the exact amount you are charged, i have done it.

Whether you're a buyer or a seller, PayPal is preferred on eBay. PayPal is also the only online payment solution that is fully-integrated with eBay, providing greater benefits and ease of use to both buyers and sellers: Buyers can easily pay using the PayPal Pay Now button in a closed eBay View Item page, End of Auction email, or My eBay. Sellers can select PayPal on the eBay Sell Your Item form or any eBay listing tool, and the PayPal logo will automatically appear on the View Item Page.

Why buyers prefer PayPal on eBay:
  • PayPal is always free to use for buyers. Plus, setting up an account is simple, sign up for a PayPal account
  • Faster than sending money orders or checks in the mail, no standing in line at the bank or post office
  • Buyers can choose to fund payments with a credit card, bank account, or other source
  • PayPal keeps financial information private. When a buyer pays using PayPal, the seller never sees the credit card or bank account numbers

I agree with Joe. I've been using PayPal for a few years now and I've had zero problems with them. It works well for me. :D

How would you suggest to save that, like on Ebay, when PayPal is the only option? Even if you could mail a check, the price is the same.
Correct, price is the same for buyers, sellers absorb the cost of things like ebay/paypal fees as a cost of doing business.

I find it tacky when people sell items on places like internet forum requiring buyers to pay "the extra 3% for paypal fees" etc. Price your item taking those things into consideration, period.

What some people DO NOT know is if you pay for an item online using 'paypal gift', not only are you sparing the seller the minute fees, you also REMOVE any buyer protection from Paypal.

Isn't ebay a partner/shareholder of Paypal?

In any case,I agree with all the other recommendations. I also have a separate account for Paypal . . . linked to Paypal and 1 credit card as a backup. That's all I use those accounts for. makes it easy to track and Paypal is pretty up front about costs.
They really are the most reasonable (cost wise) way to pay and receive money.

Correct. I believe ebay acquired Paypal in 2002 or so.
