Day 139, 2013 - Milky Way

I have to thank two people for helping me to accomplish this shot and many others. First, Dave. My wife and I are on our anniversary and being nerds taking pictures. Prior to heading out here I contacted Dave to give me some advice on setting up my camera to get me in the ball park to shoot the Milky Way. Dave was very helpful. I acknowledged up front that of course no two shots are going to be set up the same but he helped to get me, as I said, "in the ball park." Once inside the ball park it would be up to me to hit the home run. Thank you Dave. I can't tell you how incredibly helpful your advise was.

Second, thank you MoabLady for accompanying me on this adventure to a mountain top at 2:00 a.m. in sub freezing temperatures here in the Rockies. A second set of hands working in the dark was soooo incredibly helpful. I love you and thank you.

Within the photo you can see two shooting stars. There will be more of these posted as I learn the best ways to edit Milky Way photos in CS6.

Day 140, 2013 - Sunset

The sun was setting and it was nice, but the clouds piling up against the mountain opposite of the sunset looked really interesting.

Day 141, 2013 - Flower (thought I got this up last night)

The flowers are only 3/16 (5mm) when fully opened. From standing height I never saw the detail. At eye level the flower was absolutely stunning. So wished I had the 40mm Micro for this, but the 50mm Prime did the job well.

Day 143, 2013 - Biker

I am posting both the color and the black and white. I would like to know which you prefer. So if you choose to "Like" my photo then "Like" whichever you prefer.

Day 144, 2013 - Flower

I absolutely love these flowers so I revisited them so I could better show the "jaws" of these little flowers.

Day 145, 2013 - Train Bridge

Love this photo. A while ago a professional photographer friend told me one of the keys to getting a great photo (in some cases) is to show the subject in a way that people haven't viewed it. For that reason, while I'm not the first, I put the camera on to the track. What was the hidden surprise, and why I love it so much, is because I was shooting from a different perspective I discovered the bridge itself reflecting down onto the rail.

Well that one didn't upload so sharp. It's odd how sometimes the system can be so hit and miss.

Day 146, 2013 - Flower

Revisiting my favorite flowers again, but with a Nikon 40mm Micro. There's nothing I like about the composition of the shot but I was trying to do what I could in the wind to shield the flower long enough to get an in focus shot.

Day 147, 2013 - Trilobite

Recovered this little specimen here in Utah. From the looks it appears to be somewhere in the middle of its fossilization. It's amazing the detail that the Nikon 40mm Micro captures.
