Think he was bigger than the Least Bittern, which I've never seen in Oklahoma, but have spotted in Texas a couple of times. No frontals, as he was a very shy fellow, and would actually chatter at me if I got too close, like a kind of hoarse sea gull, LOL. Here's another pic I got, not quite as sharp, that shows off his green cap (plus an extreme zoom in on his head, from the same pic) Neck at full stretch, I'd estimate him just shy of... 2 feet tall? Tucked, of course, much shorter.

I ended up going by the pics I found on this page at birdfellow.com... the juvenile's look eerily similar.

Green Heron - BirdFellow Social Field Guide

Either way, it was a new bird for sure! May have to send pics in to the Oklahoma Wildlife Commission and have 'em ID it for me!

You can send it in, or just take my word for it - it's a Juvenile Green Heron, 100%. I see 'em on the golf course all the time, and they've decided to pay the trees in my backyard a visit on several occasions this year.

Like I mentioned earlier, the Least Bittern is often confused with the Green Heron. I still get them mixed up as juvies.

Day 178 - quick pic

It's been an EXTREMELY busy weekend, with some minor kitchen reno going on, etc. So ran outside for a pic of the blooms on our tall garden phlox, "Junior Dance" variety.

Day 179 - Table Flowers in B&W

Have I mentioned how much I love the quality of flash/light I get from this collapsible lightsphere?

Day 170 - Final post...

Along with "Operator", these last two snaps (well, multiple variations on two snaps) finish out my fave 3.

I first thought I'd simply title this one as "Waiting", but the more I look at it... it strikes me more as "Lonely". Thoughts?

Here's a closer crop, which I also like, although not as much as the one above.

the closer crop says "waiting". The first one is lonely.

Day 180 - iPhone selfie.

Sorry, but it's all you get today. 7 hours on two wheels. Hot. Humid. SUNBURNED!

Worth every bit of discomfort, cause we were doin' what we do!

(Ignore the shirt, it's what I had handy that wouldn't touch the burned bits)

Day 181 - Toadstool

No, not the wee lad from Super Mario Brothers, but rather just a natural fungus as shot from the yard across the street. Not bad detail for the 70-300 at full extension!

Day 182 - Right before the midpoint, and just a quick shot on the way out the door...

A couple of "Four O'clock" blooms, take right around 6:30...

Day182.jpg

Then, Day 183 - right after the midpoint. We're halfway home on this journey!!!

Quick pic of one of my marigold varieties, and the coolness of the bloom.

Day183-2.jpg

Then, happened to spot this nasty fellow as I was taking out the trash. Had to run back in for the camera, naturally!

I'm bound to get back to artsy stuff soon... better quality and all.
