Day 124 - Another walk on the riverwalk...

Yesterday was a day full of riding for the kids... today was an evening of riding just for me and the wife. Stopped at the pedestrian bridge to catch some shots while we were out.

1st, a shot of the PSO plant beside the river.

Day124-1.jpg

Then some more of the bird life that's a bit closer than normal due to the low water levels...

...and finally, a shot of a wading fisherman caught in the setting sun.

Day 125 - Toyin' around with the new toy.

So... it's time to play and learn with a bit more, and tonight I picked: Off-camera flash with the new PRIMAL BEAST in commander mode, with my SB700 on it's stand. 1st, the before test shot, a little desk top knick-knack shot with just the SB700 on-camera. Then, a second with the built in flash + the off-camera SB700 firing on the wall behind. Then an odd angle without the built-in firing at all, just to mess around. LOTS o' learning tonight!

SB700 on camera. Not so bad, but definitely not so great...

Built-in flash with SB700 off-camera and firing at the wall behind. Much better! (at least, in my opinion it is)

Day125-3.jpg

Random placement to get an interesting shadow. Kind of fun!

Day125-2.jpg

Just me messing around and showing off the set-up a bit, LOL

Day125-1.jpg

THEN, as a BONUS, I walked out onto the back porch to let the pups out and saw the moon shining through the tree. Pretty steep angle, but worth a shot. I went into 1.3x crop mode, dialed in a couple of settings in manual mode, and fired away. With that larger pentaprism viewfinder, the 1.3x crop and pure adrenaline pumping from the joy of the evening, I nailed the focus with this handheld shot! My best focus on the moon yet!! (again, in my opinion)

My cheeks hurt from smiling so much! :D :D :D

My cheeks hurt too... envy! That moon shot is so good (and hand held! wow)

Day 126 - Grasping At Smoke

My rookie set up to try and catch some smoke shots was a folded up piece of printer paper (lit, then blown out and propped over a candle), the SB700 in slave mode, and my jacket hastily hung up as a backdrop. Just toying around with something I've seen others do, and here were the 2 better shots out of 10-12.

Love the smoke shots, it's the second of the two for me because of the "flow" of the smoke. If you turned it upside down, it could almost be a liquid metal like mercury :)

This gives me an idea. I could lite my guitar with a red light, then place some smoke around it and make it look like it's on fire.
Or....I coud just set it on fire...either way will be cool.
I will give you credit for the inspiration. Lol

Inspired by Wreckdiver's recent signal shot, I stopped at a local place where an engine was sitting by some crossing lights for a couple of quick sample shots.

You two might be onto something...perhaps an unofficial one week assignment to take a signal shot. Railroad crossing lights and traffic signals are things many people can access. :)

Hmmmm....You just gave me an idea. I have an old Strat copy wall hanger here in yellowed olympic white.
I may just light it up just to see.

Wife: what are you doing out there in the yard?
Me: Oh, nothing. Just lighting this old guitar on fire and taking some pics.
Wife: ..........oh..........WHAAAAA?

Day 127 - Playoff game in the books, just messing around.

1) A little statue we've had around the house for years... I placed it under one of our table lamps to get a bit of light/shadow and snapped. The 1st is LR5 adjustments only, then messed around with a bit of editing mayhem on the 2nd version.

2) Take a guess. Shouldn't be TOO hard...

Christmas tree ornaments.

BTW. If you're going to waste time taking pics of this kind of stuff, you might as well just send me the Primal Beast now. I'll put it to good use.
Steve and I are setting stuff on fire, and you're shooting ornaments. I don't know if we can let you hang out with us after this.:p
