I had tacos tonight. Paying for it now actually. And in the colder months I cheat on the grilling out. I just throw the grill top on my gas stove. Its not the same. But it is close.

I grill out at least once a week year round. I don't care if it is raining or one of the rare times it snows. I have to get my grill fix every week.

My wife would get a little angry over the grease drippings, but cool idea! LOL If I end up in the dog house, it's YOUR fault!!

Day 57 - Bird's Eye View

I *ALWAYS* see hawks when I don't have the time to stop, or don't have the camera... so this time, I went down the road where I commonly spot them with no other plan than to catch a shot. Spotted two LARGE beauties on the lines by the road, so pulled over, hopped out of the car... and they took off. :( Apparently, they don't like people! One came part of the way back, but landed in a tree instead of on the lines, so I took a different approach. SLOW walk to get within at least a visible range with my 70-300, snapped a shot, walked a "little" closer, snapped another shot, but you could tell I was creating a disturbance. Next shot, I stayed in place as she gathered up to leap, and the last shot... Rump of hawk, flying off to more private areas of the woodlands. I've gotta find a regular and set up a blind soon!!

Without further ado, the Red Shouldered Hawk (all heavily cropped from a 300mm shot):

Then... a VERY rare sight? Is it???

Day57-5.jpg

COULD IT BE!?

Day57-6.jpg

It IS!!! A real phone booth!! So rare these days, I'll bet if I stick around with the camera, I'll get a chance to snap a shot of Clark Kent soon!!

I have a electric indoor grill. Does ok. If I'm really in need I fire up our small grill on the porch. I don't mind cooking outdoors in the cold. Just not the snow. That's what a pay phone looks like? I forgot!

Day 58 - Boy Time

So the boy has hooked me into an online multiplayer game, and we spent the evening blasting other people together. I was on the desktop, he had his laptop just across the room.

:) He thinks we're just playing games...

Day58-1.jpg

Then here's a shot of my old wee Jack-lass, Lucy. We had a bit of sun yesterday afternoon, so I really took this shot yesterday. She found a warm spot and soaked it up for quite a while as she helped me look for birds. :) 11 years old and counting.

Day 59 - I'm KEEPING my ear!!

Took the wife to a "Paint 'n Sip" studio here in town for her BDay, and we were guided through reproducing a one-off of Van Gogh's Starry Night or some such... the painting action pics are of my wife, but the final result was my own work.

Where it all starts. Perfect hair and a blank canvas. Well, I started with a blank canvas too, but I'm BALD, ok!? Let's not focus on that...

Day59-1.jpg

First a little background...

Day59-2.jpg

...then a few hills...

Day59-3.jpg

...add some... jet stream?

Day59-4.jpg

A few of the students working to reproduce what we were being guided to complete.

Day59-5.jpg

My lovely wife putting on the finishing touches...

Day59-6.jpg

...and finally, my own created masterpiece!

Day59-7.jpg

Kind of a fun experience!

Day 60 - Snappin' shots of the "shot".

Yet another winter blast blowing through this evening, so I stayed inside to mess with some cream tone and black and white. This is what ya get. :)

I really like the first two, but I find the hotspot in the bottom a little distracting. Maybe just burn in the face on the second one in from the left and the hot spots on the surrounding ones, and then dodge out some shadows along the bottom and right edges? It throws off the balance and symmetry that you have captured so well in the others.

The hotspot was the result of only using my speedlight on camera, and I actually got a couple without the hotspot (or much less of one with my bald head right over the subject) as I cranked the flash 180 degrees to fire straight up with the diffuser instead. To be honest, though, searching through the pics, it was that hotspot that appealed to me with that pic. I was going for the balance and symmetry in the others, but the "different" feel of this one is what set it apart in the 3 or 4 shots I took from that angle last night. I even cropped a bit to get it to settle into the "thirds", and kind of thought it gave the eye something to lock in on the way the focal points did on the other shots. One of those "beauty is in the eye of" the editor type of things? ;)

Here's one with a more balanced feel, though, and a little less vignette. What do you think in comparison?

Balanced (not quite the same crop, but oh well):

Day 61 - BRRRRRR!

1:57 p.m. and we just hit our projected high for the day. 15 degrees Fahrenheit, with a windchill of... 2. (for you metric folks, that's -9 Celsius, with a windchill of -16)

I let the pups out the back door for a FAST tinkle break, and snapped this FAST pic of our back porch fire pit.

Day61-1.jpg

Now it's time to curl up on the couch and watch old Brady Bunch reruns with the wife. Yay TVlandHD!!
