A little overexposed for me. I like the photo. It feels like a quiet moment and the emptiness feels like or gives me the feeling of solitude in that quiet moment.

"Pop" is a little more than "contrast" . . . I would describe it more as "vibrance" (and BW photos have their own type of vibrance . . . various shades) . . . it's that combination of vibrance, detail and contrast that makes the photo come to life, or "pop".

I have to admit that I simply don't like the burn and dodge tools in photoshop --I've tried "liking" it LOL, but can't get quite the natural look without doing additional layering and editing. I found that if it's a particular area that needs to be lightened, Viveza (again by Nik software . . . google should hire me for promoting this LOL) does a more natural and certainly quicker adjustment.

This is a very artistic photo, so I'm sure you had a certain look in mind. You just need to experiment and fine tune until you get there.

Ah okay, yes vibrance I turned down as well, lol.
Hmmm I dont know. Will have to think a little about realistic edit - this is definitely not my immediate approach. And, I think you know, but just to clarify, I used the burn to darken dark areas, but maybe Viveza/Nik dont touch these dark areas, if using the filter you suggest. Maybe this darkening could be done better.

I'll have a look at Viveza, thanks :)

I had a quick play (am bored at work lol)

Glad to give you something to do, so you wont fall asleep, lol.

But I dont think this is the right edit, its fine that this is your approach but, why dont you try an edit with the points I said I wanted in this picture?

I hope you understand me, I am not saying its a bad edit or that you shouldn't have done it, not at all - but since I already wrote that I want it bright, then why make it darker?

Btw, the over exposure you are all talking about, is this in the sky?? Because I used a ton of time trying to correct this, after all my brightening layers. On my computer it looks fine now but when looking from my phone, I can still see a bit :/

Snow White
I think this is in line with the discussion. Here's an example of how I used the "ethereal effect" to "salvage a mistake" (quick, on the fly capture in midday sun and too far to use fill in flash) and brighten a picture that needed brightening. The before and the after, processed with layer adjustments in photoshop and masking, viveza to brighten the faces, then converted to BW with silver efex, applied "classical soft" filter and "glamour glow" (color efex pro) and reduced layer opacity to 50% on each adjustment and masked out faces to keep eyes sharp.

It ended up being one of the most popular photos for this bride and groom . . . so either I'm very good at salvaging or they don't know "mistake photography" . . . or a little of both LOL.

Well done, Helene!

Maybe I am seeing whats wrong in the picture now, maybe its this darkening of her which makes her not blend ind with the surroundings. Not sure its done, but gotta go se my bed now.

Edit 1 first, edit 2 last:
