From September 2022 at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania at Strasburg, the smokebox of Pennsylvania RR 460, a Class E6s 4-4-2 Atlantic, built in Altoona, PA 1914. She was a speedster, famous for racing an aircraft to New York City carrying newsreel film of Charles Lindbergh's return to the U.S. after his transatlantic flight in 1927. The plane arrived first, but the film aboard the train was processed en-route and arrived in theatres hours before the film in the airplane was processed. [D5100]

Snagged Norfolk Southern's Conrail Heritage locomotive this morning. It was drizzly and overcast, but I'm glad to have finally seen it. The wave from the Conductor was a welcome thing. With crews protected by bullet-proof glass and comforted by A/C, the human side of railroading is sometimes hard to find these days. [D5100]

Ed Dickens had to stop 4014 and dress-down a rail trespasser. I wonder how many times he restrained himself from doing that on this trip.
At Sterling, IL there was some idiot trespassing on the track and he drew a whole lot of heckling from the crowd until he finally stepped back.

Right on. I thought back to the summer of 2018 when UP 844 killed a woman in CO who was standing so close that she was hit. I forget the exact circumstance, but I think she was a "daisy picker" (not a railfan, not versed in railroad safety) and perhaps thought that trains didn't overhang beyond the edge of the crossties. Just a terrible thing and beyond any control of the engineer.

Candian National depot building at Burlington, WI. And the grain towers. And the rails and road parts stored all over the place. I missed the freight train while I was eating lunch at the park across the river. But I now know the rough schedule for another day.
I expect @Sandpatch can bring out a shot from 1987 like other cities in Wisconsin. My quick research says the depot building is from 1917.

That's a nice find @BF Hammer, a former Soo Line station. I've never been to that area of WI; looks like I need to.
From Sunday at Pinehurst, NC, an Aberdeen, Carolina & Western E-9 locomotive. Built in 1955 for the Union Pacific, it's also served Amtrak, Wisconsin & Southern and the Alaska before finding a new home amongst the golf courses in Pinehurst. The AC&W is primarily a freight railroad, but runs passenger trains for special events. The entire locomotive is covered in a wrap. [D5100]
"E-Units" as they were known were the face of American passenger railroading as diesels vanquished steam, with many later finding second lives hauling commuter trains. I shot this as a teen in May 1976 from the window of Barrington Tower in suburban Chicago. She's an E-8, long since scrapped. [Nikkormat FTn, Plus-X]
In an amazing twist, I came across this same locomotive 19 years later in September 1995, rusting away in the weeds on a small railroad at Red Hill, SC. She's wearing paint from Chicago's Regional Transportation Authority who later took over commuter rail operations. This was likely the 520's last stop before meeting the torch. Taken 50 years ago today on 07/22/1976 on the former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western at Far Hills-Bedminster, NJ. The Lackawanna's suburban electrification was extensive, covering the mainline from Hoboken to Dover and two branches. Their durable fleet of electric passenger cars were in operation from 1930 to 1984! Thomas Edison was at the throttle for the first run. [Nikkorrmat FTn, Plus-X]
