Post your Train shots!

I was going through Willard OH a couple of weeks ago & decided I'd head over to the CSX yard for a look see. The place was dead, EHH & his PSR model have put thousands out of work. Pretty sad to think of that.

I did find one of the monster trains headed by a SD40-3, SD40-2 pair trying to head westbound out of the yard. Trouble was a MOW crew was busy welding a switch at the crossovers.

Those are nice shots Chuck -- glad that you were able to get away for some railfanning.:encouragement: I'm two hours away from the nearest multiple track mainline and your images remind me of the action I miss out on.

Those squared-off Huntington Shop geeps like the 4381 look so weird. I've read that some fans call them Spongebob Squarecabs.:)

Yes I think of them as Spongecabs too. While they do look odd it is nice to see something different out there. Everything looks the same these days.

With your new chase vehicle you should able to cut down on the drive time to the closest main line. Although that could add points to your drivers license if you aren't careful. :friendly_wink:

:D There might be some truth in that. The Sales Manager at the Dealership that wasn't able to find my Cornflower Blue joked that I'd get more speeding tickets with that color, so should go with something else.

I have 875 Miles on it now, so am putting the spurs to it a little more than before. We try to follow engine break-in guidelines to the letter, probably being overly conservative in the process. It is an astonishingly quick little car, far surpassing anything I've ever owned. I'm glad that I chose the 6-Speed stick.

Found these guys sitting on the main south of the Bellevue OH NS yard. One was waiting to get into the yard & the other was was waiting for a recrew since they were outlawed.

From October 1979, L&N GE U-30C 1573 awaits its next assignment at Knoxville, TN. Not the best lighting, but what ya gonna do? [Kodachrome, Nikon EL-2]

I like your composition there Chuck, working in the crossbuck along with the paired locomotives. Neat stuff, as well as selecting black and white for the image. :encouragement:

In a case of serendipity, I found Blue Ridge Southern working the most distant extremity of their line yesterday, once NS's to Saluda, NC and the famous grade, once the steepest mainline grade in the U.S. and now out of service. I'd taken a shortcut, expecting to see the usual cuts of stored empty woodchip hoppers, but instead found a BLU crew gathering them up! BLU's track ownership does not extend to Saluda, stopping short about ten miles or so from the Grade. I'd not seen a train on this rarely-used line in nearly 20 years, so felt greatly blessed to have seen this, especially in daylight.

Most of the automated grade crossings are out of service.

Thank you. I hadn't thought of a lotto win, but you might be on to something there. :) I also caught this backlit NS stacker at Fairforest, SC on the same day.

This field adjacent to the Blue Ridge Southern at East Flat Rock, NC is usually home to some dairy cows, but none were to be found while I chased the train. The farmer had a sign posted nearby which read

Cow pictures are free
Bulls charge

Unfortunately, the farmers sign is more interesting than today's trains!

Today would have been Conrail's 45th birthday. I still miss "Big Blue". This Kodachrome dates from almost 32 years ago to the day, taken in the heart of PRR country at Altoona, PA on 04/04/1989. [Nikon N2020]

Maybe we're showing our age, but I agree. I still enjoy getting outside though and scoping out photo locations, though finding photo props such as depots or signals is getting ever more difficult and graffiti-covered freight cars are a blight. Happily though, I see some excellent photography by young fans. The hobby has been passed on to a new generation and I hope they're able to carry it forward for many years to come.

Nice! Did the railroad paint the car, or was it Graffiti? I am thinking because of the bright yellow boxes containing information, it is a official railroad paint job.

It's graffiti. The vandals that do this know that if they paint over the reporting marks, their "artistry" will be quickly painted over by the railroad. Despite modern car location technology (lineside Automatic Equipment Identification scanners), reporting marks are still vital in keeping tabs on the 1.6 Million freight cars in North America.
