As seen in July 1976, a pair of battered Penn Central E Units take a commuter train out of Red Bank, NJ on the New York & Long Branch. That's the CNJ's BANK Tower at the left in the bottom shot. The tracks to the right lead to the CNJ's lines in south Jersey. [Nikkormat FTn, Plus-X film]

Even old & battered they still make me smile. Love the tower with that new Pontiac Tempest sitting out front. Great shots Sandpatch. :encouragement:

You got me wondering so I did some image searching on Google. Seems I was wrong it's a 1973 Pontiac LeMans Sport coupe. Seems I was close, but no cigar for me. :witless:

Have to disagree with that, my Mom had one. That car was an extreme fastback with the slope ending at the rear bumper. There would be no horizontal at the trunk and no vertical above the rear bumper. My guess of a Buick stems from the wheels don't look like PMD mags. Not that any of this matters. :)

Here's a closer shot of BANK and an enlargement of the car. Maybe it will help. All GM cars looked the same to me back then, so I'm no help at all.

What a neat tower & that car reminds me of the one Dad drove. He was a Pontiac guy through & through.

Back on topic trains.
No interesting old cars here just a GE center-cab working away in Carey OH. That big building takes large stones & converts them to limestone powder.

Some scenes at Galesburg, IL in October 1976. Amtrak SDP-40F 587 seen in the first photo was destroyed in a wreck within the next year at its birthplace at LaGrange, IL on 08-27-1977 when its train collided with a freight train that had derailed minutes before.

Stepped away from the Wayback Machine this morning and caught local train CSX F765 passing Columbia, SC's Amtrak station. Tropical Storm Zeta is bringing drizzle and the station canopy was a welcome spot.
