Trolleys are trains too, right? From 1975, here's Car 26 operating at a Buckingham, PA museum. Sadly, the site fell into decay and this fine car was destroyed by vandalism and fire, then scrapped.:( What remained of the collection was gathered up and sent to Scranton, PA's Electric City Trolley Museum to join traction equipment collected from other sites.

The wayback machine keeps spitting out gold. Fairbanks Morse & GP9's. Were those GP9's steam generator equipped? Air tanks on top of the long hood makes me wonder.

Thanks Sandpatch, your pictures make me smile. :)

Thank you. :) I know some MILW fans who can answer your question. I'm not sure, but will find out.

My MILW sources said yes -- you're right. They were steam generator equipped when delivered new in 1954. Delivered on orange and black, they were repainted in yellow when the MILW and UP partnered for long distance western passenger service. Upon Amtrak, they were returned to the freight pool and found themselves back in orange and black. They also went through several renumberings. You have a good eye for detail!

I remember seeing PC GP's with tanks on the hood like those. Somewhere I'd heard it was because they were steam generator equipped. Although I don't remember where I heard that. CRS strikes again..... :unconscious:

I just remembered that the roof mounted air tanks are called "torpedo tubes" by fans.:D

In recognition of crashton's Benny Hill avatar, here's a Conrail westbound working hard at Bennington, PA as it nears the summit at Gallitzin. It's July 1980 and the former four track PRR main is still intact, but it'll soon to be reduced to three.

As seen this afternoon in Cayce, SC, Norfolk Southern Train 191 has just departed Columbia and is on its way west to Macon, GA. The NS line in the foreground once ran 130 miles south to a point near Savannah, GA. Only a 20 Mile stub remains today.
