Post your Train shots!

In view of the heat, I recently started carrying a bottle of drinking water in my vehicle. I greatly dislike the heat as well, but I've wanted a better overhead shot from the bridge, so toughed it out when I came across the train. Local P85 is my sole bet for a southbound here and I've not yet figured out its schedule.

The Union Pacific's system runs no further east than their gateways at Chicago, Memphis and New Orleans, so us easterners are out of luck. It's a cryin' shame. Norfolk Southern once had a similar steam program and fielded a number of notable locomotives, but it all came to an end in 1994. :(

Go west young man. LOL

Probably expensive and didn't add to their bottom line.

Missed NS's Penn Central Heritage Unit this morning [ :( ], but heard the Dispatcher give clearance for another freight to leave the yard. I raced north to a spot I'd picked out and made it with one minute to spare. That's MP 101, 101 Miles from Charlotte Junction, NC.

Yay -- I caught up with NS's Penn Central Heritage Unit this afternoon, taking empty rock train 63R through Columbia. She's diverging on to the W Line to Spartanburg here.

Why is it I remember PC being green & white?

PC used green with white lettering on its box cars & cabooses as I recall. Their engines were black & lettered like this one although their locomotives really looked pretty ratty. At least that is how this old guy remembers them.

Could be the case. Thanks.

Your memories are spot on. I was shooting b&w back then (why waste unaffordable color film on b&w locomotives :D) and found this one taken at Union Station in Chicago in about 1975.

The PC unit was out for a joyride this afternoon. ;) Wheee! Actually, she's serving on local P85 and is returning running light after dropping some cars at an industry.

Caught this guy as I was driving through Marion last week. He is on the Galion sub that was once the Big 4, pounding the NS diamonds & then the old C&O diamonds now owned by CSX.
