A pair of standard cab NS EMDs idle near the old Wheeling-Pitt steel mill, just south of Mingo Junction, Ohio. (9 Jul 2016)

Caught CSX No.1 leading a coal train in Catlettsburg, KY on Saturday. All just dumb luck, being trackside at the right place and time. No sun, but that's okay.

A coaling tower still stands along the former L&N main in Chaska, TN and an L&N interlocking tower does likewise in Baxter, KY. A deluge arrived seconds after I clicked the tower shot.

Sandpatch- Very nice catch on the CSX. Really great shots of the track side infrastructure. I wonder how long they will remain standing? That tower looks great, I'd love to live there. Thanks for sharing them. :encouragement:

It's been a while since I've hunted the steel wheeled beasts. Life has gotten in the way.

Thanks Chuck. I hope your load lightens soon and that you're able to find some trains and cooler weather.

I also found that RU Tower (to be correct, I should call it RU Cabin in C&O parlance) still stands in Russell, KY along with the depot. Neat stuff.

And in Catlettsburg, KY stands BS Jct. (Big Sandy Jct.), right out of the 1950s. I doubt it handles tower duties in this era, but CSX has it immaculately maintained. The Big Sandy Sub from the coalfields meets the mainline here.

More nice pictures Sandpatch. Out along the Ohio River I see. Been a while since I've been down there. Great looking tower, it looks like it had a room addition at one time. Nice station in Russell too. That one in Catlettsburg looks like a the prototype for the Lionel plasticville station. Neat stuff! :encouragement:

Taken yesterday, a Carolina Piedmont turn sets out from Laurens, SC and NS stacker No. 213 with some old skool piggybacks on the head end approaches Spartanburg, SC.

I found myself driving up through Fostoria OH on Monday. I was stopped by this NS train. One NS Locomotive & three CN ones pulling a tanker train. As always the best light was on the other side. :shame:

Thanks Sandpatch. Little did I know had I been on the other side I'd have gotten another train going in the other direction. Trouble was I didn't want to leave my car on this side while I scampered to the other.

These zebra striped ones are Wheeling & Lake Erie SD40-2's waiting to pull a stone train out of the quarry in Carey Ohio.

Hey Sandpatch nice captures. :encouragement: I was going to make a comment on the circus wagon paint job on that Carolina Piedmont GP, but then I posted those Wheeling SD 40-2 units that look like zebras so I won't. :playful:

As I was meandering through Carey Ohio I came up on this guy going less than a walking pace pulling a rail train. Looks like the CSX W&LE interchange is getting new rail. I'm guessing those stone trains put a hurting on it.
