Post your Train shots!

Yesterday my wife had cadillac surgery. Today coming home from her post op eye doc checkup I decided to take the country roads home. As I crossed the old C&O tracks in Hyatts I spied a headlight to the north. I pulled over & grabbed my car cam. This guy was moving fast & all I could do was a grab shot. I held the shutter down & out of 15 shots this was the best one. It ain't no Alco Century, but it is big & loud.

Saw this signal last night in Clinton, SC that's worthy of note. It's marked CN&L for the Columbia, Newberry & Laurens Railroad, as merged into CSX over 30 Years ago and it's also a fine example of a searchlight signal. These old signals are being rapidly replaced by new types as per Federal government regulation. It made me smile. :) The APP marker indicates that this signal provides information about the next signal, which guards an interlocked junction several miles away.

Nice find Sandpatch. Shoot them before they're gone. :encouragement:

The sun was setting and as I drove past the signal, I decided it was worth turning around to get a few shots in the fading light. I kinda like the pastel colors that appeared in the shot of the signal head. Seeing my ISO data, I'd have never gotten these shots on my ol' Kodachrome 64!

Thank you Chuck and Merry Christmas to everyone here at our little railroad junction in Nikonites.

After 30 Years, I've decided to scrap my model railroad and build a new one. As such, I'm slowly taking things down.

Reminiscent of the Central Railroad of New Jersey's March 31, 1972 ‘Funeral Train’ is this scene, as the last cars on the line are gathered up for a final run and line closure. The real CNJ train was led by a single locomotive like these and included a motley collection of cars collected from their lines in PA as they exited the state for the final time and retreated to NJ. I painted these units in CNJ Deep Sea Green with striping many years ago.

Oh cool -- an N&W J! Seeing 746, is it Lionel "postwar"?

I don't know much about it. Underneath it says a "Lionel HO limited edition". Years ago as my wife & I were cleaning out her brother's house to settle his estate I found it. I brought it home & it has been on my mantle ever since. It reminds me of him. RIP Dave.

When I was a kid, I recall finding Lionel catalogs from the late 1950's with HO offerings, as seen here. Lionel quit HO soon thereafter. In the mid-1970s Lionel produced a nice HO American Freedom Train, led by GS-4 4449. I didn't know that they later offered an HO N&W J. It's great that you found Dave's model and have it displayed.

As a kid my Dad bought my brother & I a Lionel O gauge train set in about 1951. For many years he'd buy us another car or two & & add some track to the layout. It took up half of our basement. When my brother had his first son it was gifted to him. Sad to say it was pretty much destroyed & sold in a garage sale. After all these years that still makes me sad. Although I do have a lot of good childhood memories of an ABA F7 NYC diesel set pulling stainless steel passenger cars. We also had a compliment of freight cars.

I sold about half of our post-war family Lionel, but kept my favorite pieces, some track and a transformer so that I can run it if I want. It's unlikely that I'll ever have the space to set up a Lionel layout, so I have no regrets about selling what I did. Much of what I sold were the lineside machines which consume a ton of space, even if stored. Some of the locomotives I kept needed parts and I was pleased to find that high quality replica parts such as specialty screws, bulbs and window transparencies are easy to find at train shows and are inexpensive.

I have a few pre-war pieces that were my Dad's and I'll never sell those. I need to do some dusting!

Completed the demolition of my 30 Year Old N Scale model railroad on Friday. I have a new railroad planned and hope to get underway with it in the next few months. The new road will be nearly the same size, but with a completely different track plan and with modern track and electrical control.
