Post your Train shots!

Passed through Columbia, SC yesterday and things were pretty quiet. Despite the gray skies, clicked the shutter on a few locomotives taking a weekend break. The 3012 is a veteran GP-40-2 built for Conrail over 40 Years ago. The 9576 is a teenager. :)

Happened upon local NS Train P85 this afternoon at Killian SC. Being a northbound, I knew the light would be bad, but I couldn't resist tripping the shutter anyway. I tried to find a location where the sun wasn't in the lens.

Nice catch Sandpatch. Didn't the Southern run their locomotives long hood forward? Could that be an old Southern locomotive? I really like the perspective of this shot. You did well & one should always grab a train shot whenever one presents itself. :encouragement:

Thank you. I guess you're right on failing to take advantage of less-than-perfect photo opportunities when they appear. Years later, what was commonplace is rare. After I read your post, I did some research to find that this was an N&W unit and was delivered with a short hood, but the N&W usually ran their units long hood forward just as SOU did. Pretty neat. She was built in May 1975!

Saw Brightline pass when we were at the doc's office last week. I was still in the truck so I didn't get a shot.

With them running a regular schedule they are easy to photograph. This one was in the time slot I would find FEC running.

NS's Savannah & Atlanta heritage unit passed through Columbia, SC today. I was fortunate to find it, as Train 337 usually arrives and departs in the wee hours. It was in trailing position and staying safe, I couldn't get real close, but I squeezed off a few shots. The last photo is 337 leaving town bound for Charleston.

Well, I lucked out today. The S&A unit boomeranged back to Columbia and its train was late. Instead of the train's usual nighttime appearance, NS 1065 appeared in daylight and on the point!

I think I'm liking this retirement thing. :D

The northbound Silver Star ran nine hours late today and I was able to get a picture of it at Camden, SC. I'm glad that it all came together because the Star is a night train through here in both directions and I've never seen it at Camden. During all of my zooming around, I found a new photo location that has promise. I'll have to wait on it though, as schedule changes on the line have the one remaining freight train also running mostly at night. :(

Also found this cool lunar white signal today, calling forward a local freight running at a very slow restricted speed because the Star was stopped 8-1/2 Miles ahead. I'd not seen a lunar aspect in many years and wanted to capture it.
