Do any of y'all use a scanner radio to listen to the trains? I always carry one when I'm out taking pictures, though sometimes it's still hard to decipher what's happening exactly.

I also listen somewhat at home, though our home is below a ridge and it's difficult to receive much. However, I was blessed to hear of the Amtrak delay on my scanner and it's what allowed me to get my picture. A number of locations have Internet sites devoted to train radio, but unfortunately there's not one here.

Great train & station photos from all you good folks. I haven't got any resent ones to share. You've inspired me to get out & point my lens at some trains. :shame:

If I can catch a train moving in the other direction, this would be a much improved composition. Found this location on Sunday afternoon on a hike with my wife. This is the former Seaboard bridge over the Congaree River in Cayce, SC. The former Southern bridge is adjacent and it's active too. It's shown in the second photo. When the trees bud out, the SOU bridge will be somewhat blocked by foliage. That river birch near the bank has to go.

2 late to get a ride but maybe some pictures. ...

I need to ride the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad too. Every time I decide to make the trip, I overanalyze their schedule and lose interest. There are several route lengths to choose from, then a choice between steam or diesel and then a decision on which departure time is best. One of these days I'll just roll a die and go.

Wow -- CSX up close and personal! Cool stuff. I'm guessing you're located in La Grange, KY? There's aren't many places in the U.S, that still have actively used street trackage. Augusta, GA, St. Marys, WV and Tampa, FL come to mind and there must be a handful of others. In decades of train photography, I've never seen it.

Stopped by the South Carolina Railroad Museum (SCRM) yesterday and found EMD SW-8 2028 switching cars in the Rockton yard. I was told that this locomotive was built for the Army in May 1951 and sent to South Korea. At war's end, she was shipped back to the U.S. to Savannah, GA and was bought by the SCRM some years ago.

The SCRM's 11 Mile line was once owned by the Rockton & Rion which earned its way by hauling granite.

I found this guy east of Clyde OH waiting for a clear signal so he could proceed to the yard in Bellevue.

Here he is entering what NS calls the MINI plant in Bellevue.
