What a fine looking depot at Gallion! All that and a UP/KCS combo too. :)

Yes it is a very handsome station for sure. It was built in 1900 for the Big Four railroad. I went to Gallion to see this station that I had never seen before. I feel pretty lucky to be there when a train rolled by. It's the same train that I saw in Marion a few hours earlier. It's the same train pictured in post #2117.

mount vernon, washington skagit station. Nice place to shoot the south bound then north bound trains. Schedule has then about a half hour apart, on the day i was there one was running late so i got both in 20 minutes. Great set of shots NikonPup that's a handsome train! If I waited for the passenger trains to come by it would be years between trains. Amtrak runs a couple of trains across northern Ohio, but they come through after dark.

i would travel by train if, they ran during daylight using domed cars with sleepers underneath. I was in sandpoint, idaho beautiful country but the train came thru during o-so-dark of the night.

Amtrak's northbound Silver Star is running 11 Hours late today. I'm not sure what caused the delay, but seeing the train in daylight is a treat. Here it is racing through the drizzle at Lugoff, SC. Those shovel-nosed GE P42DC's lack visual appeal in any light. :p

I saw something last week I'd never seen before on this line. NS southbound through Marion OH with mid-train helpers. This is a flat run down to the Ohio River so I don't understand the need for them. Unless there was a mechanical issue I wasn't aware of requiring the added power. I'm also wondering if it was two trains running as one. Anyone have any insights on this?

Nice shots! Your guess that two trains were combined is a good one Chuck. I saw an enormously long intermodal train several months ago and learned later that NS is definitely combining trains. Helpers are so cool, hearing a deep and distant rumble rise to a roar upon approach. It's like getting two shows for the price of one. :)
