Was west of Charlotte, NC on Friday at Lowell, NC and was happy to find this vintage, unadulterated former SOU signal bridge and signals on the NS main. The sun was in a poor spot, but the shot was worth grabbing. These old signal bridges are becoming very rare, as modern bridges and signals are being rapidly placed. In the interest of trivia, the horizontal members of these old signal bridges are made from old flatcar spines. Railroads were recycling long before it became popular! I waited for a train, but without any luck. I'd like to return here again.

Nice find Sandpatch. Glad you took a picture, I like it. Sadly it could be gone by the time you next happen by. I didn't know car parts were used to construct those signal bridges. I have seen flat cars & gondolas used as bridges.

You have inspired me to start shooting those old vintage signals. There are still a couple in Fostoria & over in Deshler. I better get busy.

This C&O signal in Deshler waits & watches over a train that's tied down waiting for the next crew.

Cool! Yes, you have some real gems in your vicinity. I did my best to get shots of old SAL signals in my area such as this one. Long ago the SAL used "doll masts" to mount passing siding signals. You can see the empty doll mast arm in this shot, shorn of its signal which was moved to the ground in the form of a dwarf signal that can be seen. All of the SAL signals are gone in my area now.

internet says it was restored 2010, maybe they left something out. They restore the darn thing then put a fence around. They will probably put a fence around the station when it is restored.

It's interesting the things you can notice when out taking pics that you never would otherwise...........like how much speed a train will pick up after you get off the tracks.

Not as many trees to contend with in the flatlands of NW Ohio Sandpatch.

Saw this local in Bellevue Ohio pulling some cars with auto parts racks. What caught my eye was the headlight. It has LEDs for lights. Has anyone else noticed locomotives with these? First one I've noticed.
