I bet some of the passengers who didn't know this part of the Delaware River freezes like this were in for a surprise when they rode over this railroad bridge! The passengers from Philly don't tend to see the river freeze in their area of the Delaware like it does in this northern section of the river.

Wow, that is gorgeous! Your processing is fantastic. Oh, how I'd love to visit. They've set up the place perfectly. I have a nice little collection of old luggage and one or 2 of those pieces look familiar. :)
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much. I did that in Photomatix Pro and your comment made me smile because I purchased the software after I got home from that trip as I'd decided to try bracketing some of my shots so this was one of my very first attempts at HDR. Ironically, since then I have struggled somewhat with a lot of my HDR shots. I do love trains :D Just not easy to get out that often and no interesting railroads or stations/museums near to where I am so it all costs time and money.

nice to have displays inside. Can you walk thru the displays?

Yes, you can walk pretty much anywhere then. They also openly welcome photographers and allow the use of tripods, even encouraging visitors to upload pictures to their Flickr page, which is really nice. I do confess to have 'relocated' a couple of signs (the Do Not Touch ones) so that I could get the right angle with my tripod, but I put them all back (except one - because people appeared out of nowhere and I figured if I put it back they would probably think I was moving it .....)

An alternative perspective

National Railway Museum by MisfitLee, on Flickr

*This* is the way I like HDR. This, to me, is perfect. And I know completely what you mean about having to spend time and money. I want some fabulous water pictures and there is No water here in the desert. :p

I have a feeling you will do well with just about any subject. (Yes, I followed you to Flickr and oogled your images there, too!) :)

Thanks for the inspiration, Lee.

Caught a fast moving empty coal train this morning in Ballentine, SC. I was hoping for a better shot of a train from the other direction, but this train was all CSX had to offer at the time.

I found an awesome web location with thousands of heretofore unseen vintage railroad photographs. Many are very rare. I happened upon a photo taken at Alleghany, VA (that's how they spell it, not Allegheny) at the (then) Chesapeake & Ohio's 'A Cabin'. The vintage photo was probably taken in the 30s or 40s. I matched it up with a shot that I took in 2006 and the result was kind of fun.

If anyone wants to see the old pictures, they are here:

A number of us are assisting the Library in identifying the locations of the pictures and it's been great fun.
