What I can estimate is that the 1 car that is running on the 2 mile loop on any day might return in as little as 20 minutes or as long as 50 minutes. If it ever exceeds 10mph, I'm surprised.

Caught today in serendipity at Austell, GA, Norfolk Southern's Nickel Plate Road heritage unit 8100. This is another of NS's locomotives painted in historic colors that trace NS railroad history. [D5100]

From Saturday afternoon at Chattanooga, a CSX train skirts the edge of Norfolk Southern's massive DeButts Yard. This train will ride the route of the Civil War's Great Locomotive Chase between Kennesaw and Ringgold, GA. [D5100]

Another shot from Saturday afternoon in Chattanooga as I was losing my light. This train was moving slowly, awaiting clearance to enter DeButts Yard. [D5100]

From 07/17/2026 at Hamlet, NC. Hamlet was the site of a large yard, but operational changes have resulted in fewer trains to be seen here.

Four miles from home I crossed the WSOR track east of Sun Prairie, with a train moving my way. Trains move slow on those rickety old wooden ties that have to be 100 years old by now. I drove into town the long way due to road closures, positioned at Railroad Street and waited. That is the Chase grain elevator in the background that I shared a photo of last month.

And video of the train decoupling to pick up cars on the side track, then reassembling. First attempt at video on my Zf and I know I did it poorly. Just set everything to Auto mode and prayed.
