Tried the 105 but with no VR and poor light the ISO was a bit high.

OOPS yongnuo makes some cheap ones work just as good as my SB700

I went to my LCS to see when my lens would be here and came away with a £1700 camera,my wife is very understanding but i aint pushing her any further;).

Seriously though i would only do macro/close up in good light normally, just had to play with the new camera.

I am guessing that D500's big bright viewfinder is great for macro work.
I remember the huge difference going from my old D3100 to the D7100, I imagine the D500 would be a similar jump up from the D7100.
The addition of a cheap, low profile flash and a DIY diffuser would make it a formidable macro rig.
