Post your macro photos here

I bought this off E-bay. It's pretty neat actually. It goes together in just a few minutes. It came with 4 different colored backgrounds, 2 spot lights, and a decent mini tripod. It works great for cutting any reflection while taking macro shots.

Nice. Its amazing how much something like this helps.
I built one for my pen photography, while mine is a lot more elaborate, it does the same sort of thing. Mine has been a work in progress for a year or so now. Though I haven't made too many changes in the last 6 months.

If you get a chance can you show me a picture of it?

I have a Lester Dine 105mm f/2.8

Just got it, and so far, love this lens. Sharp, easy to focus, very short of DOP which makes it fun to play with.

However here is my question:
i took the picture of an ant very quick last night, with the 1:1 macro position.
Yet, the ant size on the screen is perhaps just one third. I would have thought that I would have been able to be much closer.

What am I doing wrong OR what can I do to add to this lens and be so close that I can see the eyes of a fly as an example?

Flash, diffuser, close up filter, extension tubes, reversing rings.

There are many ways to get to greater than 1:1. But the greater you get the more light and lighting you need, plus the DOF becomes very very very narrow. How big was the ant? I use a 90mm macro with a Raynox DCR-250 close up lens and a 3mm ant will not fill the frame.

So how do people make that 3mm ant fill the frame so much that you can see the eyes?

Thanks...

With the following one wrestling a grain of sugar I used my D800E, Tamron 90mm macro, Raynox DCR-250 and then cropped in. I was also using on board flash and flash diffuser.

I got this 70-300 Quantaray lens last year. It does OK. It can also be set at 300 macro. I went and adjusted my AF fine tune at the macro setting. One picture is a beer cap at around 8-9ft and the sweater is a little farther. 070 (2).jpg070.jpg View attachment 65962
