I think you did very well considering the critter has a glazed body! I believe it's a defensive tactic meant to defract light making it a harder target to lock onto visually. Just my hypothesis, so I can't state it as fact.

Anyway great shot buddy, and I'm loving the spider shot by the way!

Don't know if it was the breeze, or the shiny body, or the half pint of Telegraph California porter, but I just couldn't get a good focus on this guy

I have a hard time focusing with the texture of these bugs. Also, when I have my share of beer things get blurry too.
