Well everyone, I am such a liar!

My wife and I just refinanced our mortgage, and will be saving just short of $200/month on interest: today! All along I told myself and her that we were going to put the savings into additional principal buydown each month, and that we'd take the money that was going toward a car payment (now paid off) and do the same. You know, pay the mortgage off in about seven years instead of fifteen.

Not even twelve hours later, and I'm looking at what new photo gear I can purchase with the savings. Looking at either a 500mm f5.6 PF lens or a D850.

I am a bad person, I do not need new photo gear.

I am a bad person, I do not need new photo gear.

I am a bad person, I do not need new photo gear.

I am a bad person, I do not need new photo gear....

Does anyone have the number to a seven-step addiction help center?

I can help you with that!!!

In all seriousness though, congrats! In today's world with the economy not being good especially because of COVID restrictions, that's a great accomplishment. Being able to come up with extra $ that way is amazing. And your philosophy of putting the money back into paying off your mortgage early is commendable!

Cindy, I called this number, my wife overheard me and kicked me out of the house! :p

Just kidding!! With friends like I have on this site taking care of me, why would I need any others!

Actually, after reviewing my expenses, I've decided to defer the extra mortgage payments for a while to pay off a car that's financed at a hight rate than our new mortgage.

Either way, I've looked at my finances and determined that I can retire when I'm about 80. :p

I just got a SmallRig L bracket. It’s brilliant. I considered the 3LeggedThing Zelda but it has a few disadvantages....it’s not a full base plate, the side arm can’t be moved and is too close for a cable and more....while the SmallRig e en has a magnetic slot for the Allen key! Superb.

Guess it's time to revive this thread. Back in the spring I purchased a couple of strip boxes. Unfortunately I chose the wrong size. :( Most likely will put them put for sale locally since shipping would take a hit.

Adorama has the Glow 12" x 56" strip boxes on sale so I purchased two. Their size will definitely be better for my needs. :) They should provide some nice rim lighting.

Just ordered a used AF-P DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens from KEH...E+ condition, $65.00. This is a replacement for an identical lens that was part of a bundle of lenses and a D5600 body that I sold a while ago to help fund a D7500 body.

After dropping and damaging my old school 80-200 2.8, decided to upgrade to a modern lens. Lol picked up a Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2 for $100 off with free UV filter and Tamron Tap In Console. So far loving the lens.

512GB Storage
Retina 5K Display
3.8GHz 8-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processorTurbo Boost up to 5.0 GHz
8GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
512GB SSD storage¹
Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8GB of GDDR6 memory

I ordered 64GB of additional ram from Amazon. All of it should be here next week. I may be asking for help as I learn a new system.

Still being forced down the lighter gear road, if Nikon had ever brought out the DL 24-500 it would have been my choice, as they didn't i opted for the Sony RX10 MK4 1 inch sensor so its got a FOV out to 600mm

I hear ya Mike. My RA in my neck is pushing me to do the same. I
was looking at those RX10's as well. And they sound fantastic. But the price point stung just a tad. I can get a A7 II with the 28-70 lenses. For just under a grand. Which I'm really thinking about doing.

Mike, congrats on the new Sony. I looked at the Sony when I decided I wanted a P&S zoom camera but I choked on the price. I got a Panasonic FZ1000 II instead. It's been a nice complement to my DSLR and mirrorless gear. If, OTOH, I was only going to have a single, all-in-one camera, the RX10 IV would be at the top of my list. Have fun with yours...looking forward to seeing some pictures. :)

Not a major purchase, but I did score a great deal on a TC-201 in near mint condition for about $50. I plan on putting it on my 500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor, which is in essence a short Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, to use for astrophotography. Some test photos taken today show essentially no degradation of IQ and practically no vignetting, something I had read might happen. I have to use this one instead of my TC-300 because that one is for use with long telephotos with deeply recessed rear elements. The front elements of the TC-300 actually protrude through the mount into the rear of the prime lense, The 500mm f/8's rear elements are very near the mount so it will not work. Deep Sky Tracker uses "flats" frames to compensate for any vignetting so it would not be an issue anyway.

I looked at the A7 but decided if i got one with the lenses it would be just as heavy as the gear i have, i had a fair bit of gear not being used so traded some paid £250 on top, Sony have a £200 cash back so i will end up spending £50
