I looked at the A7 but decided if i got one with the lenses it would be just as heavy as the gear i have, i had a fair bit of gear not being used so traded some paid £250 on top, Sony have a £200 cash back so i will end up spending £50

I didn't think about that. More decisions!

I am a bit late to the D500 party, but better late than never!
My new toy arrived today after selling my all time favourite Canon lens and a Canon body to fund the purchase. I think that should make me a true Nikonite

You will be very happy with it. Get a battery grip and it will feel even better in your hands. The D850 does noticeably better than the D500 at ISO's above 2400 but it is still ok with the D500.

My D500 gets almost as much use as the D850 for wildlife photography because of the crop factor. Below I used the D500, 600mm f/4 ED IF AIS Nikkor and TC-300 2x on a tripod with a gimbal head (pretty much a necessity with this rig). This Osprey and its breakfast were well over 100 feet away. The image is essentially uncropped.

Today it arrived after being backordered. WhooHoo!

Congratulations, Walt. It's definitely different since it doesn't have the mode dial on the top left. Usually on my bodies I switch between BBF in Manual Mode with Auto ISO or Aperture Priority using the shutter button for focusing. With this one, I set it up as the first option and haven't yet had to change it. If I did, I'd have to look at the owner's manual to figure out how to switch to the other setting I usually use.

Nikon "Four Day Refurbished Sale!"

Got an email this morning announcing this sale. Now, it isn't like I need more cameras and/or lenses but, as we all know, "need" often has nothing to do with buying gear. The back story is that I've been toying with the idea of getting a used D3500 just for grins.

Anyway, while I was sipping my first cup of coffee, I logged into the Nikon website to see what was available. I checked the box to display DSLRs but didn't see a D3500 in the list. Ok, no big deal but while I was already on-line, I decided to have a look at lenses. As I scrolled through the list, lo and behold, there was a D3500 with the AF-P DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens. For the pair, and with a 10% discount also applied, the cost was about half of the MSRP for a new D3500 body.

Too good a deal to pass up. :cheerful: I think I'll dig out the AF-S FX 24-120mm f/4G ED VR I got with my D750 (I replaced it with a Tamron AF 35-150mm F/2.8-4 Di VC OSD). That will make a nice 2 lens kit to play with.

Delivery in 3-5 business days, pix soon after.

Bluzman, Wish you enjoy (grin from ear to ear) playing with the D3500. I got a new one with two kit lenses for $400 + tax at the end of 2019. So far, I'm happy with it.

Thanks. :D After I posted yesterday, I began looking around my den to see what other gear I might have that I could use with the D3500. I found a 64GB SDXC card and a Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G that I'd forgotten I had. Woohoo!

A quick update: the big brown truck delivered the refurbished D3500 this afternoon. I had ordered, received, and fully charged a couple of spare batteries so I was able to dive right into the setup process. The camera is now configured for shooting AF-C using back button focus. I took a picture and checked for shutter count. Counting my shot, the shutter count is 2.

I hesitated for a long time about getting an F3 but when this one came along in absolute mint condition (not a mark on it) I could no longer resist. There is not a mark on it or the MD4 and it works flawlessly. It is already loaded with Portra 160 and ready to go for this afternoon!

Pat bought this lens for me for my birthday. It is the Nikkor Z mount 24-70 f2.8 S. I had the F4 version but I do a lot of low light and the F4 just fell short. I do love this lens. I love all the native Z mount lenses.

It took some serious looking but I finally managed to find an MK1 for the MD4 on the F3HP in the same mint condition as the camera and motor. They are very rare and not cheap, I guess supply and demand dictates the price, but it makes shooting vertical a lot easier, especially with the camera and long lens on the tripod. I tried using my MR2 but it attaches to the port on the lower right corner of the MD4 and tripping the shutter with your pinky awkward especially since I focus with my left hand and you cannot lock the MR2 so you can inadvertently waste a frame. Of course this is going to make an already tall camera/motor drive combination even taller! But cutting my photography teeth in the early 70's and being used to large and heavy cameras, it won't be any big deal. My D850 and battery grip and a single D5 battery is as large and heavy as any of my film cameras with the possible exception of my F2A/MD2/MB1 which takes TEN AA batteries and that is heavier only be a few ounces.
