My wife won a sales incentive trip about 10 years ago and we got to go to New Zealand. I wish I'd have had my GoPros back then...for the luge and for the Nevis Bungee 440' bungee jump.

Joined the queue for this yesterday. Bye bye 70-300VR.

btw, check out this excerpt from the always-goofy Ken Rockwell's review on the 200-500:
Versus Junk Brands
The main reason junk brands are bad buys is because they are short-term buys. After their warranties expire, it's not likely that you'll be able to get them repaired when they break, and very likely that they will not work with whatever new camera you buy ten years from now.
These brands don't make the effort to update years-old lenses to work with new cameras; they step away from the issue like a hot potato and hope you buy a new lens from them instead seven years from now.
When I buy good lenses like Nikon, I know they will last me for decades, always working on my new cameras and repairable if it breaks.
With the junk brands, you seem to get a deal if you only think short term, but when I pay over a thousand dollars for a lens, I expect it to last me for decades. :mask:

Congratulations

That guy is priceless, seen it work both ways a dealer was selling a Nikon AF 300 2.8 D as manual focus only,he said Nikon no longer had the part need so dont buy it thinking you can get it repaired, although Nikon may be able to keep lenses going longer there isnt much to choose between them now.

Rockwell is a doofus. Maybe people wouldn't buy the "junk brands" if Nikon were competitive, and these "junk brands" lenses didn't outperform their own signature lenses (a la Tamron 24-70).

Ken's not so bad... I've been bitten by siggies in the past, and just recently found my 10-20 won't autofocus on my new D3300.

That certainly doesn't mean they don't make great glass, but I do think twice about them when a Nikon lens is close.

Toys for boys... new to me.... (sorry for the crappy cell phone pic). And the best part is the boss said I didn't need to sell any other gear unless I wanted to! :couple_inlove:

Picked up the mini F5 this morning:

IMG_0042.jpg

In spite of the white streak inside the battery compartment, from a battery leak, I say this body is mint. I've played with the Cs, and decided not to waste batteries. Everything I can see works perfectly. A $1,500 camera for $260.

Now I just have to find an instruction manual and learn how to use it.

Next on the list: An F4 in mint condition.

I emptied the lens fund to keep the wife happy... well, ok, and me, as my back wanted to be happy too...

ANYWAY, we went out shopping for a new mattress set this weekend, and apparently they stuff the durn things with GOLD. 105mm VR macro ain't gonna happen any time soon, but at least I got a good night's sleep last night! :) Plus, only 3 more outrageous payments to go!

*sigh*

As the saying goes ... you can sleep on your new mattress, but you can't sleep (comfortably) on your new Nikon 105mm VR macro ... or something to that effect. :)
