No new camera equips for a while, as the boy decided he'd like to take fencing lessons. My kids always win, so I'll be putting funds toward training gear for a bit, but in a way... I STILL WIN! Love to watch my youngster explore his interests, he'll have something to keep him interested and FIT, and I'm betting I can get some cool shots along the way! That's what ya call a WIN/WIN/WIN situation!

(note to self: No more impromptu sword battles with the kid)

Now, to go find that third job so I can afford to feed his hobbies AND mine! ;)

I would count it all as NAS or at least GAS but specifically PAS (Prop Acquisition Syndrome). And not only stills of the gear, but some action shots as well should begin to appear here abouts somewhere.

Already have a lot of cool "perspective" shots in mind to try. ;)

1. You just have to use foam swords. :)
2. As for the 3rd job, sleep is overrated ;) You will get plenty when you retire :)

Mine came in yesterday. Did you get a chance to try out the flash yet? I'm going to check out mine today. It seems to be well made.

Yes, I went to the church this morning where the wedding is going to be, and took a few test shots. I never had flash like this before so I can't really compare it to anything.

Got a J2 for a good price then decided to get the 18.5 f1.8. I'm happy with it so far. Just ordered the 30-110. I'll call it my Nikon 1 trilogy. :D

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. My 5200 has been having occasional stuck mirror issues and the shutter is approaching 100K, so it's time to cash in the extended warranty and send it to hospital. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), I have an Orange County bird class just started, the annual garden tour coming soon, and my 365 to live up to, so I have to be able to shoot while it is gone to rehab. Waiting for the battery to charge.

Having got back into a darkroom proper, I find myself 'stocking' up on darkroom gear. The enlarger I obtained came with one lens (50mm Nikkor), which is fine for 35mm. But I needed something longer for medium format. So it didn't take me too long to find a 100mm.

Problem was, I only had one lens board (and it was home-made no less!), and the 100mm I had purchased didn't come with a locking ring. And locking rings must be made with gold these days. So it's a hassle to swap lenses at this point.

Last week, I stumbled across the same 100mm lens on ebay, listed as having 'haze/fungus' issues. So the Buy-It-Now price was $16 w/shipping. So I bought it right away, as it came with a OEM lensboard (with light pipe, no less) and the locking ring. Heck, the big-box stores out east want $40 just for a locking ring, and think $60 is cheap for a lensboard!

So they show up yesterday. I take a quick look at the lens.... yep, hazy and the coatings are separating. Pull it off and put the Nikkor 50 on the (looks like new) board and toss the hazy lens in a drawer for spare parts.

Well, my 8 yo HP windows vista OS computer gave up the ghost. If I can't resurrect it in a couple more tries, there goes more money earmarked for a lens I want. It's required updates after reformatting are taking forever, and some aren't available anymore. It just might be time for a new PC anyway.

thought I would treat myself to a new TV and new monitor,
so I can watch TV and work on the PC at the same time, and the TV can double up as a monitor if needed,

Since you're obviously not an Apple user, I recommend the ASUS line. I bought mine and it has beautiful resolution for a laptop. ASUS makes all their own components and outsources motherboards to other PC manufacturers. They are reliable and good. Good luck.

I'm not a laptop kinda guy, but I'll look into ASUS. Actually, I'm up and running again. Two sessions of reformatting the hard drive and days worth of updates for old software and it's good to go. I do like the Windows Vista OS, but I think my next PC will be a Mac. Never had one. I'm also not one to shell out a lot of money when what I have still works fine. I have a couple of 70 year old Farmall tractors I still work with. :)

I second that motion.
I only buy ASUS and have not been disappointed.
My laptop and tablet are ASUS and my DIY home built PC is based on an ASUS Motherboard. (I never thought I'd ever build my own but it was easier than I had imagined - like Lego for techie geeks).
If you have money to burn their ZEN line is sweet but all are good. And of course you need a ROG (Republic of Gamers) there top of the line, top of the price list. BUT oh so sweet.
Keep in mind that soon all will be Windows Ten - but if you get an 8 it will be upgraded for free.
I'm using Windows 8 and it took a bit to get used to but now I would not go back. Lots of bad press which I believe was unwarranted.
