Envious of those wasps Scott. They are crazy looking!

Just researched these and they are a "Paper Wasp" I got stung by them a year ago and boy do they hurt, they are very protective of their nests and aggressive. In a split second I was stung 6 times and this is just from bumping a bush that they lived in. Luckily it was while climbing a cliff to jump into a deep pool of water, needless to say I was in it in a flash.

Yeah unfortunately they could have been much better as some IDIOT left the ISO at 1000?!?! Thats what you get for doing a 12 hr night shift and then trying to take photos.

Also I nearly got one of a water droplet hanging from the wasps mouth, but unfortunately it was OOF grrr. I will retry tomorrow and set my Max ISO to 400 at most I think. High ISO is great but when you are after such details as the texture on bug eyes the lower the ISO the better.

Doing a little research and I found they are called bald-faced hornet, white-faced hornet, or white-tailed hornet. I also learned they are more aggressive than their black and yellow family mate.

Excellent photos George.
Unfortunately my wasps didn't like my diffuser so I had to crop in a lot more than usual.

Paper Wasps and Hornet (Not sure why I am having issues getting spaces between each photo, never had this issue before. What browser are people using?)

I should have waited a little before I posted that shot as I found that one I took a couple of seconds earlier was much better, with the wasp in focus. I'm going to put it up on the evaluation thread to see what people think of it. I'm incredibly lucky at the moment with things happening before my eyes almost every day. Or perhaps I never really looked at what was going on around me until I bought the camera. :D
