I've got those same green flies in my backyard too Scott. They are damn hard to photograph, they are so quick, if you use the flash they jump quicker than the shutter can click.

In one session I took over 300 shots, and deleted all but 3.

Those two of yours look great though.
What have you used to light them, or is it just ambient lighting ?
I had my LED ring light on to light these guys as yes I too found that they would take flight before the 1/250th sec shutter and flash could capture them. But I did manage to get one in flight ;)
I think I took around 3 photos today of this one ;)

Same dragonfly in each shot. I almost got him to look at the camera. I'd like to avoid rear-end shots, but I'll take what I can get.

So it wasnt just me that wasnt quick enough with the flash . I just went to look for a photo I had of one that took flight when the flash went off, you could count 4 distinct wing beats in the time the shutter was open. I must have deleted it, otherwise I would post it here.

Books? ... Books?!

All this time, I thought you identified the flora and fauna from memory. Therefore, if you can't ID it, it must be an invasive species!!!:)

Marcel, You're a true entomologist!

If I find it in one of my books, then I'll remember what it is!

Took this one with my new Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. Is it slightly out of focus?

Gorgeous little female Wasp Spider. I've taken dozens of these and yet I can't get enough of them. May be slightly out of focus as you appear to have focused on the web. Nice shot anyway. :)
