I had my LED ring light on to light these guys as yes I too found that they would take flight before the 1/250th sec shutter and flash could capture them. But I did manage to get one in flightI've got those same green flies in my backyard too Scott. They are damn hard to photograph, they are so quick, if you use the flash they jump quicker than the shutter can click.
In one session I took over 300 shots, and deleted all but 3.
Those two of yours look great though.
What have you used to light them, or is it just ambient lighting ?
Great photos, sometimes they are just a little camera shySame dragonfly in each shot. I almost got him to look at the camera. I'd like to avoid rear-end shots, but I'll take what I can get.
