Found these little fellows under the Rhody bush. I swear they were not there yesterday. About 1" in diameter. Taken with my Tokina 35mm 2.8 macro _AAA2484 - Version 2 - 2014-05-16 at 19-53-35.jpg

Here is a different kind of photo of fungi. These are conidiophores of the fungus Phialophora verrucosa at 400x that I took at work with the D700 mounted on the microscope. It was stained with lactophenol cotton blue since they are normally pretty much transparent under the microscope. This is actually a pretty dangerous fungus and can cause something named chromoblastomycosis (I think I spelled it correctly) which is a chronic and destructive skin and subcutaneous (below the skin) infection. You usually get it from getting stuck with wood splinters or thorns.

I am not going to post a photo of the infection, but if you are not squeamish, click on this link.

They are all taken on the shores of Ross Lake, in Whitney Lakes Provincial Park, Alberta, Canada.
Shot with a D610 using a vintage 70-210 F/4-5.6. One of those push-pull focus one's. Bought last month for under $100. Very happy with it. Macro's are great - even if you have to be a few feet away from the subject unlike my Nikkor 60mm micro which gets up close and personal with the subject.
