Post Your D500 Shots

Mike, you'd REALLY like the newest version which is supposed to be a lot lighter and not as long. Of course, it has a much steeper price tag to go with it! :beguiled: Plus the new one has VR. This one doesn't.

Your heading for my ignore list :D

No the main reason i wont get one is where i do my wildlife shots a prime would be too restrictive.

So I guess you don't want to hear how Jake is enjoying his new 300mm f/4 VR with a teleconverter, do you? ;) j/k.... In all seriousness, I thought you had issues holding heavier lenses. Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong person.

Yes i do and the PF would be perfect and i could most likely run to it and a converter, apart from the weight side my dexterity isn't as good as it should be/was i think i would fumble to much out in the field,if Sigma can sort my 100-400 out it is just about ok for me.

Had to dig a little, but here is a quote from Jake which comes from this other thread: https://nikonites.com/telephoto/39990-300-pf-versus-200-500-a.html#axzz4qrpGfsuk

Different lens, but my Sigma 150-600mm Sport has gathered far more dust than action since I picked up the 300mm. Sharpness of a prime cannot be matched. That, a 1.4x and a 1.7x in my pocket and I can walk in the woods all day with no shoulder ache - it's lighter than my 24-120mm. Still not sure why I haven't sold the Sigma, but I know I'll need it if I ever get back to Rocky Mt Natl Park.

Mike, the use of a prime and lack of zoom can be a problem at times. I am crazy, and carry 2 bodies. One with the 300mm with TC, and one with my trusty old 70-300mm VR. I use a backpack, so it's not a tough carry. Still, though, I very much admit that I am crazy. :)

The new 300mm with VR would be nice, but I am working hard at being happy with what I've got. It's just too easy to desire new toys all the time. :)

That's what I thought. I shoot 80% of my wildlife on my deck so you'd think you could never live without the zoom. Nope. Sure, I do "miss" some things that I'd want to zoom out for, but I more than make up for in "gets" that I never would have gotten had I needed to lift, point, zoom, and focus the 150-600mm Sport at a moving target.

Took the D500 and the 300mm f4 PF as well as the 24-120 f4 lens to an equestrian event yesterday, not my normal type of event but have to say the combos all performed really well and never missed a shot.

I never cease to be amazed at this camera and lenses.

2800 ISO and backlit. I had to recover shadows and this is a significant crop. Not bad under the circumstances.
