Re: Bird in Flight

Out of focus and shutter speed too slow. What shutter speed would a person use for birds and do you use auto focus?

I use aperture priority as i want to use f8 or 11 this means i go with whatever the matching speed is,single point focus now but i did start with mutlt and vr on,more than shutter speed its a case of matching your panning to the birds speed this is down to practice and more practice, after all its free at this stage.

Shutter speed will depend on the bird itself. Small birds move their wings fast. So you may need 1/1500th or faster to stop their wing action. Bigger birds work well with 1/1000th or 1/1250th second.

Set auto focus to Single Servo, Center Point and use AF-C continuous. Focus at the beak of the bird and follow through with your shot even after the shutter button is pressed. Shoot in burst mode of 3 to 4 fps.

Change your focus method to Back Button focus by assigning th e AE-L button to a focus button.

Hi Mike. More newbie confusion. Is single servo AF-S differ from AF-C. I have it set to AF-C but need to know whether chose release or focus options for AF-C

Would we use the release or focus options?

Sorry I didn't see this but Dramtastic answered it for you. Glad he did as I don't even know what you were asking. Focus or Release option? I don't remember there being that option when I set mine.
