This little guy I haven't been able to identify. I'm sure he is common and for some will be very easy to ID. These shots were in late evening as the sun was setting.

Could be a Black-throated Sparrow - Amphispiza bilineata

Scott, thanks. I believe that is what it is. I tried to look it up on the Merlin Bird ID APP from Cornell, and it didn't show up. After your post, I looked it up online and they had it listed there with photos very similar to mine. It is also said to be in my area.

My wife and I went goose hunting. The ice is just starting to come off the lake (yes it was cold) but the geese have come back and looking for open water.

She was shooting with the D5100 (AF-S 55-300 VR DX) and I had the D610 (vintage Tamron 200-400).
She likes "auto-everything" but I'm slowly trying to move her beyond that, a very delicate dance when her auto-everything shots on the less expensive gear came out better than my efforts today. (I'm thinking I NEED a VR long lens for birding - that and lots more practice).

I don't what this guy was? Not in my bird book, thinking its some sort of domestic duck thing or an exotic. I call him Elvis.
(Just noticed pink line on the right side of some of my images. No idea what that is or why it's there?)
